Mother on Rent allowance, personal welfare claim reduced by 70%

After spending a bit of time not working, I decided to move back home with my mother who is currently on rent allowance. My current rent allowance claim is 100 euros on a weekly basis.

The DPS sent her a letter that her rent allowance has been reduced by 70 euros per week because I'm living with her (Which I'm obviously giving her). My current situation is that I can barely help her out with groceries or utilities, let alone pay for everything required for a job interview (Transport, dry cleaning, haircuts).

Is there some mistake happening here, or is there anything I can do? I'm considering applying for some type of short time loan, just so I can get back working.

It's so ridiculous that if I needed to buy a suit, it'd probably take me six months to save up!

Job seeker's allowance, 100 euros gross. I worked abroad for a few years, and worked for four months here, receiving on avg 450/wk gross.

Your mother is in receipt of at least €188. (or €193 widows pension?)
    You have €100.
    Thats €288.
What is you and your mother's contribution to the rent?

So Your joint monthly income is 1248 and your actually paying 740 in rent? Is that correct? Because that leaves 117 per week for electricity food heat bins water etc

    740 euros.
It can't possibly be €740 - the most it could possibly be is €40 per week.

    More info needed.

How much is the full rent payable to landlord?
How much rent supplement was she receiving from DSP?
How much did she have to pay out of her weekly DSP payment to make up the full rent?
Was she living alone until you moved in & if not what age are the other occupants & are they employed or on a DSP payment of there own?

Usually, if there is a non-dependant adult living with the person in receipt of rent supplement the rent supplement would be reduced by a further €30 per week.

Sounds to me as if the situation is that (if it's just you now living with her) that €40 is being deducted as her own minimum contribution plus another €30 is being deducted for you as a non-dependant adult, totalling €70 & that she is only 'losing out' on €40 per week because you are living with her & not €70. (The €40 I mention above may actually be €30 minimum contribution that would have always been deducted anyway plus a further €10 deducted because the property is no longer a single adult household).

Full details of her assessment of means should have been sent to her with a full breakdown of deductions rather than just a letter stating that her rent supplement has been reduced by €70 because you are now living with her. If she didn't receive this she should ask for it. Post back when she receives this - chances are she already has it so have a look at it & post back with details.
