So I went to my post office to collect the JSA and behold... nothing there for me. The woman in the post office said it's been happening to a few folk this week, that some people are showing up and there is no money.

Firstly, I wasn't told or warned I've been or about to be cut off. Were these other people cut off, I don't know. She said it was weird.
Secondly, I have no idea if this is just a one time thing or I have been cut off and I'm f**ked.

Wouldn't mind, but I was talking to my welfare officer a few months ago and he knew I was going back to education and was the one encouraging me to do it and said I was entitled to do so.

    So yeah, wtf.

Well go down to your local Dept of Social protection office and inquire (don't bother phoning you'll be poor by the time you get through), its your money. You won't be just cut off, you'll get notification of any changes.

Yeah I'll have to go down tomorrow to them. Good thing I didn't wait till tomorrow to try collect the money.

Hah, yeah I'd be on the street by the time someone picks up. I rang the Social Welfare Appeals Office and they said the exact same thing you said. Even they have problems reaching my local office

If I was, let's say, 'cut off'. How would they notify me? By post?

Yes but you'd get forewarning of that sort of thing.

You weren't cut off. Your payment was suspended they usually do this if you miss a signing, or didn't reply to a letter they sent to you eat ect It you go down to your local office they will have the reason on screen they will sort it out quickly you'll get double next week.

Not sure if this is related but seems the most appropriate thread. I am due my first Job Seekers Payment on Monday. I got the Letter yesterday, Friday. I will not be able to collect it on Monday or Tuesday. My sister booked a flight to Scotland for me to visit her for tonight until Wednesday. Annoyingly, we actually timed it around the dole on Wednesday, knowing I need to be back to pick up Thursday or Friday. But my dole payments just got approved. Bad timing, office is closed as its the weekend obviously. I spoke to a welfare person who said that they cannot guarantee it will be there Wed. It will be there Mon and Tues and that first payment is different. Just looking for people experiences with first payment. Did you pick up late? Did you try to claim it back later, is that possible? My post office is in Longford.
