Disgusting anti gay marriage Video.

Various people from several unspecified religious backgrounds come out and defend "traditional marriage." They completely trivialize how tough it is for LGBT youth to come out of the closet by implying that it's more difficult to be an oppressor than a victim. Not once in this video do they cite religious texts or studies to defend their beliefs. They just say "I know what marriage is" (which is ironic in itself because marriage existed long before organized religion).
So basically this video is a bunch of random homophobes crying because they're too dimwitted to actually read religious text or simply challenge their existing views.
The video actually made me so bloody angry I had to turn off it before it was finished, Im so tired of religious organisations and religious people making themselves look like oppressed victims in these gay marriage debates.
The grown woman and the little girl shedding fake tears towards the end was really just the icing on the cake

Looked pretty clear cut to me, the URL at the end of the video was catholicvote.org

Regardless of how angry the video makes you feel you should take a look at the comments on youtube, they're quite definitive in the slating of it as the predictable religious muppetry it clearly is. Seems like their message is not getting through!

Its a bit of stupid way to express them but they are entitled to there views, does make them all look a bit twatish though

Whatever about their views but pretending you're an oppressed minority ,who are too afraid to voice their true feelings, is just offensive.

It's the oldest trick in the book when public opinion is swinging against you, don't be the bully - be the one bullied.

My favorite extract from Panti's speech in the Abbey theater,

'And for the last three weeks I have been denounced from the floor of parliament to newspaper columns to the seething morass of internet commentary for “hate speech” because I dared to use the word “homophobia”. And a jumped-up queer like me should know that the word “homophobia” is no longer available to gay people. Which is a spectacular and neat Orwellian trick because now it turns out that gay people are not the victims of homophobia – homophobes are.'

The right have been spectacularly successful at co-opting the victim-hood status for themselves in the last few years. This trend is not restricted to gay rights issues either virtually every right wing cause now chimes with the sounds of repeated claims about the 'oppressive PC-brigade' or 'overzealous SJW' etc. Beyond a few examples the centre and left have been quite poor at handling this form of argument.

I don't think that's just a 'right' issue.I think quite a lot of people are fed up of a subset of Tumblr/LiveJournal culture that has sort of bled into the mainstream.

    Devious.

We've seen similar with Breda O'Brien and the rest of the Iona shower. This whole "Oh poor me, I feel so oppressed and bullied because people judge me for expressing my opinion" thing is very clever. I don't think it will fly but what other choice do you have when you are an intolerant person in a tolerant world?

The comments about how a person should not feel like they can't express an opinion are interesting. Do we apply the same logic to, say, people with abhorrent racist views?

I love how one of them was literally in tears by the end. "You're not alone *sob sob* you're not the only person with an irrational aversion to gay people *sob sob*"

I am talking about right wing manipulation and that is one of the tactics. There are countless examples of it even on Boards.

That doesn't in anyway preclude the existence of genuine frustration with 'laptivist' culture.

I love the top comment on the video though, from Pandora Boxx (of RuPaul's Drag Race fame):-

"This is the best skit SNL has done in a long time!"

I'm not even gonna comment on the video or its contents for fear of getting too worked up or saying something I might regret/get me banned, so I'll just leave it at that.

Oh, and of course, there's a rebuttal...
