My patience is on a hair trigger after holding to speak to someone in SW for FORTY SEVEN minutes and then he cut me off by mistake

I'm hoping someone can help. I've been living in the UK and moved home to Dublin earlier in the year. We welcomed our baby born into the world last year who was born in the UK and has a national security number there but now he needs a PPS number (for GP care, children's allowance etc) and I can't find the information I need anywhere.

I've been sent a form Reg1 to hand over his birth certificate for five weeks but the man I spoke briefly to this morning said to fast track it I just need to go into somewhere with our little boy and his birth certificate and they'll issue one right away. Can ANYONE help? Ive been led up blind alleys, transferred to non working numbers, kept on hold and spoken to people with the IQ of an amoeba and nobody seems to know anything.

Any help most welcome! We live in Dublin 4.

You'll need to go to the DSP King's Inn Street Office on 20 King's Inn Street (off Parnell Street), Dublin 1 with his birth cert, proof of your address & proof of your identity. They will be able to issue you with a PPS number for him.

    Thank you both so much.

THIS is exactly what I have been looking for, thank you. Do I need to go and make an appointment or just turn up so you know?

Thanks for this. Unfortunately the site site is scant on practical information about where to go. It has lots of phone numbers but conflicting information and all the phone numbers lead to the same place, most annoying! I see the local office is for Parnell Street which is entirely different from Kings Inns St. by the looks of things.

I had to do this for a child born in the US. You just turn up at King's Inn and pull a number for your place in the queue. I think it was 2-3 hours before my number was reached but I left and just popped back every so often to see how the numbers were progressing (this was 4 years ago).

You can just turn up but be prepared to stand in line for a few hours. I don't think you can make an appointment. The security guard there once told me Tuesdays are usually the worst, Fridays the best. Lucky me for showing up on a Tuesday, arrived at 9.30 and left just after 1pm....

Hi - I just found out after my own 47 minutes on hold on the phone today, that you can make online appointments at "https:// www. mywelfare. ie" (remove spaces). I know it's probably too late for you, but wanted to share in case someone else was searching the boards for info.

I cannot thank you enough for this! I've procrastinated like mad on this so I've now made an appointment for soon so thanks a million for sharing this info! You're a star! :)

    Hello Merkin (and others),

I'm so glad to hear the information was not too late! :)

I just got back from my PPSN appointment at Parnell St, and to my amazement, I was in and out of the Intreo office in less than 15 minutes! Now, I cannot say whether that is typical or not, but I did want to report back to let everyone know.

A short while after making the appointment online at mywelfare.ie, I received an email notification that my appointment was confirmed. When I then logged back into the mywelfare website, I had exact Desk # of where I had to be at my appointment time.

Today, I had an appointment at 11:15am, I arrived around 11:10am - the entrance was the one on King's Inn St, rather than Parnell St. The line for the reception desk was out the door, and to the street corner! But, I had an appointment, so I bypassed the entire line and waited in front of my designated Desk # only for a few minutes!

The desk opened up at 11:16am, and I was asked for proof of address, reason for need of a PPSN, and photo identification. I had filled out the online form, but was given a more updated one to fill out there instead (a few fields had changed/been added). The young gentleman behind the counter was friendly, took my info, took a photo, set up a couple of security questions, and told me I would receive a letter by post in 5-10 business days.

And then I was done. I was out the door by 11:28am while the line for the PPS reception had only grown in that time. Imagine my amazement and delight! I'm so glad to have had found out about the online appointment option. I hope more people learn about it and take advantage!

I hope your appointment goes just as smoothly!

Thanks Nessy! My appointment is also for 11.15am one day next week so it would be great if it goes so seamlessly! Thanks so much again for all the helpful info, it has been invaluable!

    Hi otiliacaliman,
We can try to help, but can you elaborate on what seems to be the problem? Why can't you proceed with the registration? Do you think it's a system/browser issue or are you unable to provide some of the required information? At what point do you get stuck?
