Not going to be setting the bar too high here. Much as I dreamed about scoring the winning goal in a World Cup or an All Ireland, it never happened so these are the highlights and lowlights of my sporting 'career'
Highlight 1. Winning the U12 100m race at the local field day when I was only 11.
Lowlight 1. In the same race, a year later, missed the start, got caught by a flailing hand of a competitor, dead last, managed to pass everyone bar one at the finish line, my year younger brother, devastated.
Highlight 2. U14 hurling match, playing in my normal position, corner forward, our goalkeeper gets injured and I am brought back in goal, 2 points ahead in the last minute, shot comes in, I dive, ball hits my hurl, deflected out for a 65,we win, I am a hero.
Lowlight 2. Next U14 match, I am put in goal, senior goalkeeper giving me advice before the match. By half time, I had conceded 6 goals and the senior goalkeeper had drifted to the far end of the pitch.
So what were your sporting highlights/lowlights?

Biggest Success: came last in a game of soggy biscuit

Biggest Failure: played a game of soggy biscuit

We're running casual 6-a-side soccer out of the Cork City forum for over two years. It started off as 12 strangers meeting just one evening a week, grew into two evenings, and is currently at three evenings. We have approximately 30 players playing over the three nights, three sets of training vests, footballs, pumps and had a number of nights out from extra money collected with another due.

I'd consider the whole thing quite an achievement.

Sliding tackle on a waterlogged February pitch, wee bit late, cleaned the ref, two spectators and the headlight of a Datsun Stanza.

Not sure if that's my worst or my finest tbh.

Boxing - stopped after about 70 seconds of the first round in the final of the British and Irish University Championships about....16 years ago.

Highlight 2.27 Marathon way back in '83.
Lowlight When I was a soldier I was press ganged into a soccer match against italian sailors from a visiting Italian navy ship. You know how young lads argue about the greatest player ever? They all KNOW I am the worst player ever. Anyway, one of the Irish lads takes a world class shot and the italian goal is wide open. I think "I'll help it on its way..." Famous last words and I was on guard duty that Saturday.

Finest moment : u 12 county hurling final brought in as a sub in the last ten minutes as a corner forward draw match. Wandered up to mid field position as all the play was down the far end. The sliothar was cleared out towards me. I pulled wildly on her could of went anywhere but the stars aligned and straight in the back of the net she went won the match legend for a week.

Worst : u15 county football final as a goalkeeper first high ball in waving the arms" that's going wide lads" back of the net. Spent most of the game getting acquainted with the back of that net. Waste of space for a week. Never played a game since.

Gold medal in a mini soccer tournament for first year boys in my secondary school. Played up front and didnt understand the off side rule. Don't think i scored :D

So i think that's both my greatest and worst at once!

Good: I saved a penalty in a under 12s football (soccer) match in last couple of minutes of the game,

Bad: got so emotional about it I bawled my head off and tried to make out I'd hit my head on the goal post during my wonder save, my bawling continued for so long, they finished the game early, no one believed my hit head excuse, it was a fairly crappy lie after all, and I was mocked relentlessly for years about it.

    That's bloody impressive.

Offered a trial for the Kerry minors. Declined. So not sure it that's success or failure! I knew myself that I would have been a million miles off the mark. But always a good one to haul out in pub talk for years after...though depending on the night, one or 2 in the pub may have played junior and senior inter county football for Kerry...

Scored 3 points from close to the 45 in the space of 15 minutes in a Junior B match. For those 15 minutes in time there wasn't a footballer in Ireland playing as well as me.

I still recoil in horror at the memory of being beaten by my female cousin in an arm wrestling match in third class

Best: Watching my younger brother make his league of Ireland debut.
Personally, I was lucky enough to captain a lot of winning teams as a kid, so lots of great memories highlights were sticking on the county jersey a few times for soccer and gaa (underage levels).

Worst: Made my senior championship debut at 17 and I completely froze. Worst game I've ever played and I still have nightmares about it.

Those are the days, when your eye is in, like when you hit every fairway, when you hit 5 strikes, your opponents look at you with respect. A great feeling.

Highlight. Scored 3-3 in a match once. Won the school long jump. Player of the season in soccer.

    Lowlight. Fcuking up my cruciate.

highlight/**** up: went on trial with a big big premier league club but bottled it and went on the piss the night before first training session, they werent long sending me back on the plane to eire.

Caught the ball on the volley about 10 yards outside the box and it went in like a rocket, absolute screamer. About 20 minutes later I put the ball over the bar from about 3 feet, couldn't do either again if you paid me.

Highlight- Lunging desperately in a GAA match when I was covering for the main goalie and blocked a goal and allowed us to go on to win.. Was asked to go try out at county training but thought they were pulling my leg and never went.
Lowlight. Oh dear. I was rock climbing on a sea cliff and got snatched off by a wave. Cue a helicopter ride and hospital before having to make my way back from Dublin looking like someone has bate the shíte out of me :o
