How would this phone compare to say a galaxy s4 (current phone)

How would this phone compare to say a galaxy s4 (current phone)

The S4 is a much more powerful phone. The S4 has double the RAM and a much, much better processor. Not to mention the fantastic camera on the S4, compared to the average at best 8MP shooter on this guy.

This is a decent enough phone too, but there are other options for much cheaper prices. e.g. Smart Prime 6 is €89 for the exact same specs.

Appreciate that. So its no flagship replacement... My s4 needs a new LCD so I'm gone back to girlfriends old S3 and time hasn't been kind to it...sluggish, battery life terrible etc.

Definitely not a flagship replacement. 1GB of RAM will always be somewhat sluggish with Android, even on stock.

how people think that a €150 phone you can buy in a shop here can compete with a €400+ device is beyond me.

You can buy very decent spec'd devices from China in that price range, however.

Smart Ultra 6 which is out soon will soon be able to do that.

Buying expensive products from China is always a lottery. Too much cash to be gambling like that.

Let me guess, only Vodafone stock it. Do you work for them by any chance?

I assume you're referring to me. I asked was it comparable to the S4, ya know cos its been out for 3 Years now... There's no need to be like that.

Alot of these prices are inflated because some people think that owning the name of devices will update their social status.

Apple, Samsung, that thing called headphones by beats ($14 to make and sells for $?), all cost a tiny fraction to manufacture.

If people are willing to get caught up in that trap then good luck to them.

I'm currently travelling through you Asia and my moto g x1032 is starting to wreck my a head a bit.

Should I try upgrade to something here in store or wait til I reach New Zealand (2/3 months) and buy online?

Also what phones should I be looking at?

I hardley think hundreds of millions of people around the world bought these phones because of the brand name. Apple and Samsung probably have the two best all round smartphones on the market. People will always have preferences but in terms of specs and performance there's no arguing they make great devices.

Also to think it costs $14 for beats is naive, your forgetting as well as those parts you need to factor in manufacturing, R&D, packaging, shipping, marketing and probably a whole lot of other costs. No doubt they make a big markup on the headphones but it's nowhere near that price.

Back on point, there's been at least 3 iterations of this phone (with a 2015 version coming). I have the first moto G and it's really beginning to bug me. Is this deal in Argos for the latest available version? They all look the same from the front.

    Thanks

This is the second gen and newest version of the Moto G and the 4G version too. The Moto 360 dropped price recently too but it's supposed to be due to an expected update for most of the Moto lineup.

There is plenty of evidence out there regarding their pricing and marketing strategies. They charge premium price for premium product.

This is not just limited to phones, for example there are many cosmetic products and sportswear brands that charge way over the top. Most of it is marketing, and yes a lot of money is spent here to ensure that they attract the customers. However my post mentioned cost price.

Certain things such as clothes might work that way but two of the biggest flagship smartphones sell mostly because they are genuinely the best out there, they are premium products so you pay for what you get.

The Moto G is similar, buying this over a generic brand means you get a lot of support services, these phones generally get Android updates quick enough compared to other manufacturers too. Also some of the pre-installed software is actually good on the Motorolla phones.

Plenty of reasons to choose this other than brand name.

I agree completely. They invest heavily in r&d to make sure that they agree always on top and release the latest tech. I have spent the last few years researching how these companies function. And how much value there is in a brand name. Example Lenovo buying out IBM and Motorola in order to get into this lucrative market.

A successful brand name is expected to have premium support services in today's environment. Premium product ensures premium profits.

I own the original G and it still runs great for me but having used a few 5" + phones like the Moto G2 I wanted to get a phone with the bigger screen, I was thinking of getting this too but the 3rd gen is due to be announced soon but having looked at the leaks of the 3rd gen it supposedly will have the same snapdragon 410 as the new Moto E! , the same 1gb of RAM and exact screen from the 2nd gen. The only thing supposedly getting an upgrade is the cameras, if that all proves to be true then it would be worth picking up the second gen for this price instead if your like me and upgrading from the 1st gen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,857 ✭✭✭Atlas_IRL

The second gen is duel free, i bought it here after i microwaved my s4 :o
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NBSZ56C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

They can be a bit sluggish and the camera is crap but for the price its nice.

Agree Moto G had it's day.

Smart Ultra 6 you mentioned for €169 is far superior spec wise.

Its similar in specs to flagships of 2 years ago, S4, Z1, Htc One etc

Once it's confirmed it can be unlocked on the cheap. Then it may replace it.

This is quite a good thread, if someone isn't being open about their motivation behind recommendations.

He most probably doesn't work for vodafone, i get that. But pushing the same product over multiple threads is a bit suspicious.

Seems like a lovely person though, to be fair. :/

All you had to do was say you had no affiliation to Vodafone. Youve yet to do that. I don't see why you're pushing the smart 6 so much its not logical.

Anyway we've pushed this off topic enough, its not even about the phone you're pushing.

He likes the phone, so he recommends it. When people get a product they really like they encourage others to get it.

Maybe because it's better than the over rated moto g.

Smart 6 ultra is an excellent deal, its a far better phone than that weak ass moto g.

Moto g is a 99 euro phone, anyone paying over 150 for one is being robbed.
