Having a Camera is safer than wearing a Helmet...

Poor Michael Schumacher mixed both and it didn't end too well for him, I think it even came to prompt the DH helmet camera ban

Jeremy Vine is using his standing to promote the go pro nutter "I'm PUTTING THIS ON YOUTUBE" type, If everyone on the road that was made brake by another road user filmed and reported it to the police the drain on resources would be huge. Plus taxi drivers don't discriminate, they'll pull out on you no matter what mode of transport you're using, if they could they'll probably do it to trains.

He also complains about people getting squashed by tippers turning left, and then in his video goes on to cruise along in the blind spot of a furniture van, driver can't see him, and he probably wouldn't be able to see the left indicator from his position, exactly the kind of thing they should be discouraging at what i'm guessing is a cycle in the city kind of event

I can see how a camera would protect your head in the event you banged it while falling from your bike.

I suppose you'd be more inclined to protect your head(camera) from being damaged.

How does that work? What kind of camera would you use that survives an accident? Does it have to go on the helmet, or can you put it on the handlebars?

I tried cycling with a camera but tbh down to the "99 D 12345 YOU'RE ON YOUTUBE LATER" bell ends I also felt like a bell end.

I do however use it if I'm going to CX or go for a ride on my motorbike with mates.

As a safety cam for catching the baddies, I'll leave that to nutcases like CycleDub, CycleGaz and their ilk.

    I use a Mobius cam.

It's slightly bigger than a match box and I glued velcro onto it and my helmet.

Well worth the money. The quality is superb. The one I bought came with a rubber type rain cover.

I don't like those bulky Gopro type ones. Bit to much "in your face"

The latest Mobius now comes with a 820mah battery which give 2.5 hours.

My own is on my handlebars (too big and bulky for the helmet). It (SJ4000) might not survive a crash but the memory card should be fine.

    .

That phrase really annoys me, throw it on youtube if you like, report to the Gardai if necessary but telling someone this just makes you sound like an immature fool and IMO just makes the situation a joke, like threatening to tell a teacher on a bully. Don't threaten it, just do it, threatening it either antagonises the situation or makes a mockery of it to the other party, neither being helpful.

If you won't report it but the opportunity presents itself, in a calm voice, " I am not having a go but what you just did was silly/dangerous because of "reason here", just so you know"

Have a gopro on the handlebars, I got for the holidays but leave it on on my commute too. Had the previous bike written off by a car and I just feel that it could be used as evidence for insurance in a case that wasn't so clear cut. I don't youtube anything and amn't looking to record bad driving etc.

Same here, the only video I ever put on youtube was to prove the camera worked for someone I was selling it too.
