    Morning Folks,

Looking to do an occasional cycle to work from Donabate, just wondering what the safest route would be.

    donabate - Swords - Santry - Drumcondra

    or

    Donabate - Malahide - Malahide Road - Fairview/Marino.

I have cycled a few times via the Malahide route, but early on weekend mornings, no rush hour traffic.

    Anyone have any reccomendations?

    Thanks.

Not sure about the entirety of your route, but I used to work in Marino, and I always used the back streets to get through it (the slightly labyrinthine network of roundabouts behind Marino Mart) rather than the main road that runs beside the park. I hate that road. (More so since that awful business yesterday.)

    thanks tomasrojo

would not be overly fond of that area either, more so now in light of yesterdays accident

I cycle through Fairview every day and while yesterday's accident was tragic, I don't think it's a particularly dangerous location. It's possibly a bit dodgy coming out of town towards the junction with the Malahide Road where the multiple lanes can be a bit difficult if you aren't maintaining a good speed.

You have to negotiate the Airport roundabout if you go through Santry/Drumcondra but it's easier on the way out from town.

Overall, I'd say go in down the Malahide Road and go through Fairview Park and come home the other way. Bit of variety is always good.

Alternatively would you consider a lap of Howth on the way home? ;)

I commute the Donabate - Swords - Santry - Drumcondra - Dublin 2 route a couple of times a week. Its not too bad depending on the time of day. Crappy road surface in a couple of spots but the majority is ok.

Sounds like a plan, especially in weather like this, then just head on up through portmarnock and Malahide
