Cyclists with deathwish

I also posted this in the Motoring rant, so please forgive the slightly ranty tone (forum rules, etc...)

Coming back from Limerick to Ennis on the N18, the missus saw two of a group of 10-15 cyclists attempting to cross the dual carriageway on foot into oncoming traffic.
Yes, you read that right. Those Darwin candidates took their bikes, walked across the dual carriageway totally ignoring oncoming traffic.
A car in lane two had to jam on the brakes and swerve into lane one, occupied by another car.
That car had to jam on and come to a halt beside the hard shoulder in the dirt, narrowly missing the other cyclists, who had decided to have a natter on the hard shoulder. All this accompanied by much beeping and shouting, if those cyclists even heard it. I hope they got such a shock they shat themselves.
So, in short, 2 cyclists just thought "Oh look at the big castle!", stopped their brain and just walked out like moths into the light.
How no one got killed is an absolute miracle, the laws of physics alone cannot explain how the cars were able to react and avoid creaming some lycra clad moron.
Dear cyclists, we really do like you. We don't want you to get injured and killed, so PLEASE observe this basic safety tip: Do NOT walk across a busy dual carriegway without looking. It is scary this even has to be said.

    edit:
I probably will get some stick for this, but really, this was just insanity. The missus is still in shock.

I think you'll find that if they are on foot they are to be referred to as "pedestrians" with a death wish. In which case you'll find ample support around here

It is generally unwelcome to post the same thing in more than one place across this site.

And yes, as I think you are aware, this is not a place to hold cyclists to account for bad behaviour. For both of these reasons, I am closing this thread.
