12 week internship extended to 14 weeks - how will this affect going back on JA?

I started a 12 week internship which I'm 10 weeks into. The hope was for it to turn into a job but it's not looking that way as the company has no money :(

Anyways they have offered me another 2 weeks, bring the total internship up to 14 weeks. I know you can sign off jobseekers for temp work for 12 weeks and your past claim continues but what happens when you go over the 12 weeks?

I was on the JA getting the full €188 at 25 because I was on BTEA before the rules. If I take the extra two weeks will I have to start a new claim and will I be put on the lower rate of €144? That's €2,288 a year which I cannot afford right now.

You can indeed have your claim payment suspended for up to 12 weeks of temporary work once you can confirm the start and end date. As you arent in paid employment but on a I presume self found internship then your claim should be closed. When the internship is over you can go in and make a repeat claim which should automatically link to your recent claim and you should continue on with the €188 rate.
