    well lads.

I've a learner permit, I'm 18, have a 01 Peugeot 1.1. I was thinking about setting up a policy in my mothers name, but afraid after reading another forum because there is the whole issue of "fronting" but wouldn't be fronting really because she would drive it every now and then. I still have to ring aviva and ask them as they have a good deal of €500 for 12 lessons 6 months free accompanied driving and I could put myself as a named driver. Boxymo I have found to be the cheapest but you are limited with your driving, can only do certain KM every 9 months. Everywhere else have outrageously high prices of 4 grand. Anyone have any advice? There's only about 2 companies who will insure me and costing 4 grand. Would a company know I'm fronting?

It would be fronting. And I would wager a lot of companies would know, and charge high prices as a result. It's illegal, and dangerous territory.

Ring around to a few brokers and speak with them, is my advice. Online quotes are rubbish.

Yep. It's fronting. And even if you went to all the trouble of putting the car in your mams name, it won't be enough to pull the wool over the eyes of the insurances companies and get a better rate. They are so wise to all this carry on now, that they just load the premium with the rates linked to the highest risk driver, (you) regardless of who actually owns the car. So you don't get to make any miracle savings.
