Soaping or oiling timber flooring

    Hi all.

I'm about to sand the timber floor boards in a number of the bedrooms. The boards are pine and are currently finished in a high shine varnish.

I've grown tired of the high shine yellowish look to the floor boards so I am considering soaping or oiling my floor boards instead.

Does anyone have any experience of the above? Ideally I would soap the floors to give a more Danish feel like in the attached picture. I'm finding it difficult to find a soap product for this in Ireland though.

After that are there any oils on the market that give a lower shine or don't add a yellowish sheen to the floor?

    Thanks

Linseed or Danish oil will give a low sheen finish but will yellow over time, the finish shown in the picture is known as liming , it works best on open grained timber such as oak but can be used on any wood, if you Google "liming wooden floor" you will get lots of information and tips.

This maybe too late - but I have used WOCA for that slight hint of grey/natural finish on our floors.

Free delivery to Ireland too - Its a bit pricey but worth it in my opinion.
