Iv had a few graduate developer interviews recently. Actually had one last week for a bank for a graduate database developer. I was asked a number of competency question based on teamwork, decision making, communications etc.

On the databases side I had to explain database design foreign/primary keys , Normalization, transactions, some SQL statements and joins etc basic databases theory.

I was also asked various questions about the Software Development Life Cycle, testing planning.

Iv had 6 interviews lately some were very technical others were basic enough.

Best of luck with the interview.

The only problem i have with code is explaining it outright as i have desliexa and that kind of stuff i find very hard to explain to people but sit me in front of a computer i would be able to do it. It would be my major weakness.

Software Dev lifecycle thanks for that.

Thanks i need all the luck i can get LoL

I conduct interviews at junior developer and software developer levels a fair bit. You may be asked to design a small database from scratch. In that case, you would just need to draw the tables that you would create in your database on a whiteboard and define the primary & foreign keys etc. On top of that, I would recommend that you know your joins, 'having' & 'group by' clauses.

On the SDLC, make sure you know the steps involved and have them in the correct sequence. Once you can list them and explain what happens at each stage, you are home and hosed. Make sure you read up on the types of testing that are used too.

Best of luck and if you have any questions, feel free to fire me a PM or post here.

    How did your interview go?

Wasn't as bad as I was expacting

Asked me about how I deal with people if there is a problem. How I cope with loads of work. Have I ever made a mistake in my life. Have I ever went out of my way to do better then others. I used examples of how I have dealed with problems and examples of how I used my skills in both work and college.

Then on tech quastions I got asked the software Dev life cycle and was able to explan it in detail what needs to be done at every step. Talked about my work placement where I done a big project.

Now just have to wait and see if I am lucky or not. Thanks for the advice as nearly everything said came up.
