    Hi all,

Is it possible to disable the warning for when there's something on your passenger seat without the seatbelt being buckled? I have a 2007 Avensis.

You can completely disable the beeper, but not specifically for non humans on the passenger seat.
I used to just fasten the passenger seat belt.
It's a good safety feature ,particularly if you have an older passenger who wouldn't be inclined to wear a belt

Pity, it's very annoying when I throw my laptop bag on it, or when putting messages or something on the passenge seat, I've survived this long with it so I supposed I'll survive another while

It's fairly eay if you're not afraid to dig around under the seat, or even take it out.
There should be two switches....one 'sensor' on the seat base to detect the presence of a person, and a switch in the seat belt clasp to detect that the belt is fastened.
Either one can be shorted out to stop the audible warning. You could even stick in a small switch under the seat so that you could just turn off the buzzer when you wanted.

edit; if the above doesn't appeal to you, simply head to your local Breakers and get just the Belt Buckle from a similar Avensis. Keep it in the centre console and just stick it into the clasp when you want to silence the buzzer. Or if you do most of your driving alone just leave it clipped in.

That's a very good idea actually, thanks for that.

Isn't that sensor also the occupancy sensor for the passenger and side airbag though? Messing with the buckle one would be the way to go

Another thing you could do is get another buckle from a scrapyard and just click it in when you need it.

You could always go mad and throw your laptop, messages on the floor or back seat.

Is there not some simple way of silencing the beep? I know with Ford, it's something like plug in and out the drivers belt 10 times in quick succession and it'll stop the chime, but the light will remain. I'm sure toyota has something similar. I'm in favour of the warning noise though, not for myself, as it's always on, but with passengers, and just as colm says, older stubborn passengers, forces them to put the belt on.

It'd be easier to just plug it in and leave it in.

I mean you plug it in/out 10 times and it's disabled for good, you wouldn't have to plug it 10 times each time you get into the car!

Ah bugger! I went to the trouble of making a couple of those...

Yes, there is a similar way on the avensis to do this.

And what would be this similar way?

Turn ignition on and set odometer to ODO
    Turn ignition off
Turn ignition on, within 5 seconds, press and hold the trip-reset button
After 10 seconds, fasten the seatbelt
    Release the trip-reset button
turn ignition off and take off seatbelt

That's for the 03-06, think the 06-09 is the same

I would have to do that every time would I? I thinking the blank buckle would be a whole lot easier, or keep putting the stuff on the back seat/floor

Yes, you'd have to do that to turn it on/off
It doesn't reset every time you turn off the car

Think of the alarm as a reminder not to.

On Audi / VW you can disable it with a VAGCOM. Not sure if Toyata has a similar mapping.

Any one have an idea on how to disable the door chime on the Avensis when you open the door with the keys still in the ignition. So so annoying.
