Sore throat and chest

So I decided to try and switch to a e cig and stop smoking cigarettes.

I found after a days use I had a sore throat and it feels like my windpipe is actually burned.

I know others have reported similar issues but I don't want to stop vaping. I had gone to the vaping stall in my local supermarket and bought my e cig there. It's a ego firebird and the fluid is a healthier choice 24mg. I'd already browsed these forums and had decided that if I liked it I would order something more sophisticated online. However now I'm wondering if I order something else, will I have the same issues with my throat? Are other brands similar or can I find something smoother that will be easier to vape?

    Any advise?

Sorry to hear about your throat,a lot of vapors starting out always make the mistake of buying stuff off these stalls, most of them are crap imo,is this the battery you got http://www.wickedejuice.com/en/electronic-cigarette-batteries/252-ego-firebird-20-650mah900mah1100mah.html

What clearomizer did you get, there are a few on that site, the liquid you got from them, imo, they are schit, others might disagree.Probably will:D:D:D
The first thing,I would not recommend anything on that site, the battery is under powered & the clearo's are way behind times, maybe it is the liquid that is causing your sore throat,I can't say for sure, there are liquids with too much PG or VG mixed to form the eliquid can disagree with some,I was lucky,no illnesses.
Don't go back to smoking, put up with the sore throat & we can sort you out with a good set-up if you wish, others may jump in & give you good advise as well.

Your liquid is most likely high pg and that combined with 24mg nic. Would be the likely cause, I would say you have probably been vaping quite a bit too.
It would be easier to advise if you told us how much you used to smoke etc..

I smoked 20-40 low tar cigarettes a day. Stuff like silk cut blue and marlboro lights. Over the last few months I've been smoking low tar in other brands. I was travelling through SE Asia and then bought back a few cartons.

I checked the label of the liquid and it doesn't say if it's PG or VG (and I also looked up those terms :))

I had no idea. I googled what was written on the box and found it listed as an eGo-CE4.

CE4,pure crap & a schitty battery, you'll be lucky if you gave up the habit using that set-up,
That wicked ecig company will not tell you what VG or PG they use,it's top secret :D:D:D:D
Another vapor here on the forum rung them up to ask about their VG/PG ratio & they wouldn't tell him, couldn't trust companies like that.
What is your budget for your new vaping gear,if we know how much to work with,we can give you links to trustworthy vape stores online.

    As said above. ..
If you are okay to spend let's say up to 100 you would be well on your way to never looking at a ciggy again in a way you would never have believed could have been as easy and pleasant

I can spend that much but for that much I'd like to make sure I have two of them or two batteries so I have some kind of redundancy built in.

I started off on the same set up as yourself, I think (firstly) it will take a bit of getting used to vaping, you'll probably notice in the mornings that your mouth might be a little dry too.
If you are using the e-cig a lot to compensate for the smoking/cravings, I would maybe recommend dropping the nicotine down a bit too... that, combined with a high PG liquid could be irritating your throat.

So, after a bit of research I think I need something with a relatively large battery and a variable voltage. I have to say the most complicated part of this is the clearomizer/atomizer. There seems to be a huge range of products out there and it's daunting trying to figure them out.

Most starter packs seem to start with a ego battery and I'm fine with that. It looks like a good size for carrying around. However it seems like the coils need maintenance/replacement often and it also seems like a lot of effort if you want to clean them out so I think it might be good to get a few extra coils and clearomizers/whatever so that I don't have to stop vaping whilst waiting for the equipment to soak.

Any suggestions? Especially with suppliers that are fast/reliable.

You seem comfy enough researching stuff, I would recommend looking at an iStick50w as your power house as it is 4400 mah so will last even the heaviest of vapor all day no problem ( I have 2 myself, 1 for work and 1 for home and when out for drinks )
There is also the Subox Mini kit which would be good if you got a charger and a couple of extra batteries, haven't received mine yet but a couple of others on here will be able to chime in and tell you what they are like to live with, so far I have only seen positive reviews.
For the tanks you are right about it being a jungle but personally I have been happy with aspire nautilus before moving on to eleaf lemon and the big kanger subtank, few others in between those but won't recommend something like forgers because they are tricky to build on

Sweet. Thanks guys. One last thing. There's loads of liquid supplies there. Are there any particular companies which are known to supply good product, or at the very least any that I should definitely avoid?

That's one thing I can't really advise on as I would be going by hearsay mostly as I have been making my own for a long time.
In the beginning I was using mostly Hangsen as it was only 16 Euro for 100ml
some of their flavours were ok but others I found either a bit weak or absolutely rank ( the strawberry milkshake was quite ok and so was the rasperry ) but the watermelon tasted like fairy liquid to me but at the end of the day the liquid thing is very much down to individual taste.
Only thing I would recommend because of your sore throat issue is to not go higher pg than 50% and maybe even a bit less like 40pg/60vg
So save a few quid when buying liquid, keep an eye out for discount codes and when there's sales on by signing up for newsletters from the online shops

Here is one liquid which I vape most of the time http://www.e-smokeireland.eu/product-p/nutj.htm you will notice when you select the strength of your liquid,on this one there are two options,6mg & 18mg,this strength will depend on what clearo & size of coil,if using a Nautilus with a 1.6 or 1.8ohm coil, you should go with the 18mg juice.
The 6mg juice is better for sub ohm coils like the Subtank mini with a 0.5ohm coil.
With the Subox Kit which is one of the links above can use all strengths of liquid because it has alot of different set-ups that comes with it,if you decide on a set-up that requires a battery, ask here first because you need a decent battery that can handle the Amps.

A lot of us buy from France, cheapish but excellent liquids, allow a week for delivery & then 2 weeks for steeping...

Check out the eliquid threads here on the forum for reviews.

Here is a video on the Subox https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ro2vfF8afw

Steeping. Thee's something else I needed to google. I'm taking notes as I go along. I think I'll knock together a guide for newbies like me when I'm finished.

I'm going to order everything from esmoke Ireland for one simple reason. The postman here never delivers parcels and the depot is two miles away. If I'm going to walk two miles there and two miles back I'm not going to do it too often if I can avoid it :)

It's lucky that you don't live on an Island, you'll be doing alot of swimming:D:D:D
Most of the liquids never need steeping, you will eventually find out which Vendors sells what, here is another excellent vendor & he uses Fastway couriers, save you that walk:D http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/27-vv-mods
Use code "irishvape" for 10% off & free courier delivery if you spend over €60.
