Received Bill - No Reading

    Hello,

I understand that there is a fixed charge for water in place; however, I do not understand why I have received a bill with no meter readings on it.

This will not facilitate the household preparing for the phasing out of the fixed charge, meaning that we are not being given the opportunity to objectively measure our usage. I feel this goes against the customer charter as this will have an impact on water usage efficiency and sustainability, through no fault of our own.

I look foward to a resolution to this.

    Thanks

Just checking: do you have a new (not pre-existing) meter installed? They can't give a meter reading if they don't have one.

If your property is connected to the public mains for water and/or wastewater services and the property is yet to receive a water meter, no meter readings will be available to view on your bill and you will receive an unmetered bill. See here for more information on different bill types.

If a meter was installed during the first billing period (Jan 1st - Mar 31st), your first bill will be based on an unmetered charge and all future bills will determined by your water usage.

However, if a meter was installed at your property before January 1st 2015 and no meter readings are available on your bill, we can most certainly investigate this for you. If this is the case, we would ask that you send the following details via private message so that we can assist you further:

    - Name;
    - Address and
    - Contact number.

    Kind regards,
    Amy.

Hi, just to save starting a new thread, how are the meters read?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_meter

An electronic meter records usage at specific intervals, e.g. hourly or daily. With Irish Water it's then a matter of a vehicle driving along and interrogating the meter via radio.

Other installations may have the meter connected to the internet or a unit at the end of the street that is connected to the internet.

I'd rather hear it from Irish Water Victor not wikipedia unless you are one of the reps.

    Hi Hilly Bill,

    Thank you for your query.

In this phase of metering, Irish Water is installing a mechanical water meter in the footpath (or verge) outside each home.

Each water meter has a low power radio unit fixed to the top which sends a data signal that can be read periodically from a passing van. This is what is known as automatic meter reading or AMR. The data sent from the radio is encrypted and then stored securely on our computer systems.

There are two companies manufacturing the meters that we use:
    1.Itron
    2.Diehl

They were selected as part of an open and equitable procurement process for the supply of water meters.

The water meter is calibrated and tested by the manufacturer to ensure accuracy.

    I hope this information helps.

If you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Kind regards,
    Kim
