High spec small cars

I am currently looking for a cheap runaround for a relative now retired. Currently has an ageing 2 litre barge but paying near €800 tax and rising insurance for less than 2000km a year is crazy.

Looking around it seems very difficult to find small cars with decent spec, particularly ones with A/C. Budget is no more than 3k cash, want something under 1.3l if possible.

Anyone any ideas what to look for?

Yaris Sol would have air con, rare enough and you will pay a premium.

It's not really going to help him going from €710 a year to €358 motor tax, it will take them nearly 9 years to recover the €3k cost presuming the car they get is as good as the one they are getting rid of.

No idea why he wants A/C if he's only doing 2000 km per year. But he should be looking at something like a Yaris. (This might have a/c). This one has a new NCT and the cheaper tax of €200 p.a. Only €1800.

It's pretty old now so is only a matter of time before something uneconomical needs fixing, I am going to use it myself until it pops.

Some people are naturally cool, some need a bit of help and others are raging hotheads who need industrial grade freezers to keep them from exploding over the failings of other road users. ;)

    Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Only 05 onwards (2nd gen) Yaris sol has aircon. nobody bought them. You wouldn't get one in budget either way.
