I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to Gothenburg from Copenhagen. Can anyone tell me if they've done this journey before? All I can find are roaming train tickets online which cost a lot of money. I literally just want to find out how much it costs for a one way ticket.

It was 1989 since I was last there,if I remember correctly you can get a hydrofoil which I guess would be cheaper than the train

There is now a bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo which has a train line across it. Simply buy a train ticket at either Copehagen Airport or in the central station. I think there are special ticket machines for Swedish/Danish trains but can't remember exactly. You may have to change trains and the tickets can be expensive.

get the bus direct, cheap and frequent.

No direct train service any longer
Traffic changes from 10 April 2012

SJ's train service from Copenhagen–Malmö–Göteborg will be discontinued as of 10 April 2012.

This decision is based on poor profitability and a large range of services, including the Öresund trains, operating the same route.

SJ's train service from Copenhagen–Stockholm will NOT be affected by this change.

We apologise for any inconvenience SJ passengers may be caused when we discontinue the service due to poor profitability and the wide range of services with other trains along the West Coast Line.
    Alternative means of travel

We refer passengers who wish to travel this route to the Öresund trains, or to travel with SJ from Copenhagen–Alvesta and then continue with the Coast-to-Coast line from Alvesta–Borås–Göteborg.

This is completely wrong. Read the second paragraph of your quote again.

Swedish Railways have discontinued their own train, because of the Oresund Train that operates the same route.

There very much is still a direct train service from Copenhagen to Gothenburg, once an hour in fact.

OP as with any European rail query, refer to seat61.com - the bible!
