VW Scirocco advice needed

Hi folks, long time lurker, first time poster. I drive an 09 Vw scirocco tsi 1.4 litre DSG (automatic).

Have had the car a number of years, never any trouble. Took it to VW dealer for full service a few weeks back, nothing of note reported, there are less than 100,000km driven on it.

Anyway last night on the motorway, (first long spin it's had post service) the esp warning light came on, I pulled the car to the hard shoulder and turned off. This warning came on once before when I hit a patch of ice. On that occasion I let car stand for 10 minutes and it seemed to reset and had no further issues. Last night however it wouldn't turn over at all, I had to call breakdown assistance, they also could not restart.

My question is twofold, is anyone familiar with this issue? It seems like an electrical fault to me, as there were no mechanical sounds I noted in the lead up to this. Could immobiliser have been set off accidentally??

Secondly, do I have any recourse with the dealer here, it seems like this may end up costing a few euro to repair, should the diagnostic check a couple of weeks ago not have raised any potential issue (or am I being a bit naive here)

    Thanks in advance!

In what way could the service a few weeks ago have caused this new issue?

Anyhow, a dealer is required to diagnose the source of the esp fault.

    Really?

Any half decent independent garage will have diagnosic equipment capable of scanning a VW ABS system.

It sounds like it might be a common electrical fault in these cars. Could it be as simple as resetting the computer do you think?

    I doubt it tbh.

What did the recovery guy do to try and get it started?

What exactly happens when you turn the ignition on?
Do you get all ignition lights as normal?

And then what happens when you turn the key to start the engine?
Does it turn over and not fire?
    Does it do nothing?
Does it make some noise but not turn over?

He tried to jump it, the battery and engine management warning lights were also on. The gearbox and brake pedal also wouldn't budge.

So when you turn ignition there is no sound of the engine trying to start / turn over etc, just a feint electrical drone. Ignition lights are working I think

    Apologies I had meant that.

Update, the transmission unit is blown, looking at €1500 to replace. With less than 100,000km on the clock it's pretty disappointing
