hi i want to set upa song writing group. just a bit of fun really, get a few writers in, singers, musicians, see where it goes.

i start it off, feel free to edit or comment.

Song about an old man looking back

i was there right from the start
remember when jimmy broke my heart
the beatles came and they fell apart
but i came home to you.

    worked hard 9 to 5
    prepared for a hard life
got my dreams and i set them aside
so i could come home to you.

its true i like a drink
but not for the resons you think
life can pass you in a blink
but id run home to you

stuck in a hole where i dont wana be
waiting for a soul to set me free
its hard when you dont believe
it was you who pulled me through.

  • Where are you based?

  • from Galway.

  • We have a group in Boyle, meet usually the first Wednesday of every month. Summer has messed things up a bit. I'll be away, but if you keep an eye on the Boyle Arts Festival, http://boylearts.com/ I believe the group will have a session as part of the festival. (I will be away, and I'm not sure of the date.)

Anyway, we're sure to be back on track in September if you're interested in coming along.

  • It's worth finishing, would you need a chorus, to complete it,
    Like a summing up?

Where do you intend to set up the group?

  • A shallow window

    Besotted by Blondie maggie was,
made a costume from egg cartons
    and velvet drapes

    closed the curtains she did,
    No preying eyes tonight
looked in the mirror, how riddiculous
closed her eyes and hummed her song
a shallow light her only glimpse

Seventeen years alone and this room
    cold like never before
i want to wave my flag like the others
but a shallow window is always in my way

Its always a sign when others say it
but to admit it to yourself is the ultimate betrayal
you saw her walk along like nothing or no one
could see, she gave you light
a switch to see and feeling you forgot you had
lights from a car broke the spell
and now she has moved away

Seventeen years alone and this room
    cold like never before
i want to wave my flag like the others
but a shallow window is always in my way

If only i could save the fare
I would walk if i could
to experience my way of life
and not a path with an end
    she zipped up my dress
    slow and i was lost
feeling her eyes through my heart
    i never wanted to forget.

  • Thought about the theme for a while and came up with these two verses:

    You can count the times
    That lady luck comes calling.
And you can read the signs
    Like every autumn falling.
    Watch it all pass by,
    Don't even wonder why,
But in the depths of the nights
You'll know you though not to try.

    You can hope your hopes
And you can have your dreaming.
    But you're on the ropes
If you can't find the meaning.
    Like a lifelong vow,
    Don't even wonder how,
You let the thoughts that you had
    Become so distant now.

Maybe someone can suggest a phrase to build a chorus around?
