Hot Water tank constantly filling

I've just noticed that the hot water tank in my parents house is always filling, I'm not sure how long it's been going on for as no one lives there any more.
Is it likely to be a leak and if so how difficult will it be to find as there are no obvious signs. There is nothing coming from the over flow and I don't remember the last time the heating has been on.

    Cheers

I presume u mean the cold water tank in the attic space?

Start by cutting off the cold supply to house
If so either turn off the supply from under the sink, stop cock maybe impossible to close due to age so then tie up the ballcock in the attic tank, use a piece of stick or broom handle to tie it up to.
Is the ground floor a suspended timber floor ?

From what it sounds like, the hot water tank downstairs is filling and a tank as well in the attic. There is definitely water filling or moving in the hot press.
I had turned off the water earlier in the week, the tank stopped filling but it's back at it again, maybe I didn't turn it right enough.
Honestly I couldn't tell you type of flooring there is

Check that there isn't an outside tap left on or leaking. Also check toilet ballcocks aren't leaking.

Check all other taps and showers. Those are places where leaks may not show as the water will have drains to take it away.

there should be a valve in the hot press that shuts off the cold feed to bottom of hot water cylinder
if the cold still runs in kitchen then valve under sink not off fully.
If u have a water meter then it is easy to shut off from road.

You need to stop the water soonest because of thew water damage and also if u want to try get repair work done under insurance u need to have shown serious effort to stop the flow

By any chance, does the water sound happen when youve the boiler heating up the cylinder? Sounds like there could be air in the pipes

So it wasn't the hot water tank constantly filling, it was the sound of the water running through the pipes.

Turns out it was a leak in the incomming cold water pipe, under the hot press at a bend in case anyone was wondering
