Just tried the adverts.ie car valuation tool, i know it is not a definitive assessment of value as stated in the small print but I was amazed to see the difference in price compared to colour etc but the biggest surprise was that if my car has tax it is worth less than if it doesn't, surely that cannot be right?
I guess it's just a gimmick, the missus' car is being traded in next wednesday, its 7k on the confiigurator with tax 6600 without tax she is getting 8000 for it as a trade in against a 17k new car. well that passed a few mins of my boring life anyway. :D:D

Looks like a random number generator. WTF? Was this launched on April 1st or something? :pac:

Having valid tax decreases the valuation for mine :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭Pov06

Yep valid tax decreased car value by like 50 euro.

Seems as correct as online insurance quotes

My car is worth €150 more with no tax

A valid NCT increased the value of mine by over 4k. :D I think I'll use this calculator for tonight's lotto numbers.

No NCT drops the value of mine by €500. I've never seen the internet be more random

Mines €1500 to tax and she's worth €13,740 with tax, now if I recalculate it with no tax she's worth €14,637
With no NCT and no tax she's worth €11,624 and with tax but no NCT it's €10,912.

    I like this calculator.

It really is pretty random, it won't even let me put in my real mileage.. Max it allows is 300,000km... Mine has 400,000km...:eek

2010 mondeo valued at 7,600, keeping all the criteria the same, just changing the model to focus, the value is 10,550

Your car is either priceless or a pile of sh*te (according to this calculator) :pac:

Apparently, the Merc is worth €800 more if I don't tax it! :D

My car is apparently worth 6 grand more than I paid for it last year, from a main dealer!

Yep! Mines only depreciated €750 in two years :D

    Are cars the new houses?

My 8 year old car is worth nearly 30% more than when I purchased it 2 years ago..... €€€€€€

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭Seweryn

NCT valid until September 2016, taxed for another two months, low mileage, one previous owner, economical Diesel Estate in very good condition...

    Result:

    €713,-

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,060 ✭✭✭Kenny Logins

I'd love to know how the people behind it came to the decision that it was ready.. It's not just a few bugs or quirks, it's complete rubbish. Pick any car at all and flip through the engine size from 1.0 right up to 4.0 and it'll throw a random number at you.

Has this actually launched, or did somebody just stumble across the URL?

I got the link from the top of a boards page, I wonder if that is how customs calculate the VRT :D

Car im looking at for €3500 is coming up for €2000 with it (I may show that to the salesman :D)

A car im selling for my sister for €8000 is coming up at €10500 .. I may rise the price!!

But in all seriousness, the valuations seem to be all over the place

No matter how much its worth, if you post it on adverts.ie, all you'll be offered is:

    SWAP MY AD??????????????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 CrazyMark

I get an error message because my car has too many miles up on it

"Mileage should be between 1000 to 300000km"

has anyone sold a car on adverts?

    a daycent car ....

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 9,984 ✭✭✭mik_da_man

    it doesn't go over 4.0 L either...

Closest I could get for my car is about 10k less than its worth, think I'll pass!

It also doesn't go below 1.0 litre, and the oldest car you own was registered in 1990, which is when we started driving cars in Ireland.

I actually did and didn't get much for it.

The thing with adverts.ie is you have to take the first offer because any other offer will be 100% lower than the previous offer by someone else :D

It's a proper car boot sale type of market on adverts.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,047 ✭✭✭Truckermal

It values mine 3k more than what I paid for it yesterday! !! and it values my wife's car 10k less than what we paid 3 weeks ago! !

The year seems to have the biggest impact on prices, never mind if the cars is worth 10 grand the calculator will says its worth 1k if you put it down as an 1998 car:rolleyes:

For example a 1998 Toyota supra is worth over 6k, however the calculator has it at 1574 euro, lol

No matter what the car model is, the cheapest one is from 1997 range :). So if you are looking for a cheap car, always go for 1997 model year.

I would be more so talking about high performance cars that age does not really affect price in reality, the calculator is saying an 8k car is worth 1k which is ridiculous.

I know, that was also my point. They simply base the value of a car on the registration date.
Any why there are only cars from 1990 up on their list, I have no idea.

A Diesel engined VW Beetle is as rare as a Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic, but the price does not reflect this ;).

Never mind other details... Jezis, this valuation tool must have been created on a Friday afternoon.

My 2004 Xtrail 2.2dci 4X4 is valued at 2,565. Nice one, I only paid 500 for it. :)

Sure they should just change all the prices to "SWAP MY AD?" instead. Typical adverts.ie bidders.
