I am irish. My husband and i married in Rome in 2006. My passport expired last year. It has my maiden name on it.

I need a new one, but want to change my surname to my married surname on the passport.

But im wondering - Will the passport office accept my Italian marraige certificate as proof of name change? I have letters, bills etc with my married name on them.

    Any advice appreciated :)

Yes you can use your Italian certificate but may need to have it translated officially if it doesn't show any English on it. I got married in Spain and used mine but mine is an 'international' one that is in Spanish but with an explanation on the back of the terms in English.

No English translation on mine unfortunately! Certificato di Matrimonio, one from the church and one from the Italian state.

Is there an official translation service i could contact?

Just did a quick Google and there seems to be a few places that do it. This page seems to explain what exactly you need the translation to be. Probably handy to have it translated anyway for other things you might need to show the cert for.

There looks to be another few companies do the same so might be worth pricing around to see if there's any price differences!
