Loan Collections Mechanisms

Hey all, this post may well dance a tight line 're forum rules, but I am not asking for advice on defaulting; merely for the tools which a collections agency has at hand, so I am hoping this will be ok.

If it needs saying: I am not considering defaulting.

I was wondering as to the means which a collections agency employs when following up on late repayments of a loan, in the event that a bank passes the information on to them. Does said collections agency have access singularly to the same information that the bank had access to in the way of contact details, or can they use information such as PPS number to follow a person?
