Pierce County politicians [ Chambers Bay area ] in 2005 paid USGA $15M to consult on course design -- not a well known fact as the Open was not supposed to be for sale -- so the gravel pit was turned into a golf course with Irish fescue, it staged the US Amateur in 2010 ,won by Peter Uihlein, and then the USGA began planning for 2015.

If it were not for the substantial donation to USGA endowment as my US source relates then why would the USGA have taken it's major event to the moon 2000 miles from NYC.??
