"The driver had parked up, and had closed his wing mirrors, so he just must have forgotten to have a look back before opening his door," Mr Lacey told the Herald.

NO amount of Hi-Vis would help him there!

Hmmmmm Donnybrook so it was either a blonde in a mini cooper while on the phone with one hand and fixing make up with the other hand, or, a yummy mummy in a 4x4 also on the phone and fixing make up with the other hand

Or a man in a white van , or a business man in a merc,

you really need to get over the sexual stereotypes

"a blonde in a mini cooper while on the phone with one hand and fixing make up with the other hand"

To be fair he never said the first one was a woman!

Captain Havoc just got one but the last time I checked (not all over, mind) he wasn't blonde. Maybe a wig?

Ha it mentions that it was a fella in the car.

Driver should have had a look, but in fairness what was the councillor doing cycling in the door zone?

He mentions that the driver had parked up and folded in his wing mirror. their such an inconvenience aren't they??

also it states that it happened at an intersection, should cars be parking at intersections?

    Or a broad-beamed cigar-smoking exec in a Beamer.

And on the folding door mirror thing, I am convinced people do this because they don't want a scratch on their mirror housing as opposed to the mirror being in the way ......

Are you being serious? You actually ask what the councillor was doing cycling close to the side of the road? It's not a door zone, its the road.

The car owner brought his mirrors in, effectively blinding himself to anything coming from behind. Even with that, he could have opened the door slightly and taken a look back but that was too much for him so he just opened the door on the basis that he was ready so therefore so should everyone else be!

they dont want it knocked off. if they are not automated it generally implies that they have parked somewhere dodgy where it could easily get hit.

if it was automated, then there this a serious safety aspect that needs to be followed. No mirrors should fold up until all seats are empty and added.

No it was a serious statement, but on re-reading it, it sounds like I'm putting blame on the councillor. I didn't mean it was his fault for being there, I just meant it's sensible to leave room on the left when passing parked cars to try and avoid this exact situation.

It's not always possible to cycle outside the door zone, which is effectively about three feet out from a car or four from a van.

Most probably happened near the shops in Donnybrook, the parking spaces are set off the road, but the cycle lane and bus lane which I fear more these days) runs right next to them. That place is a nightmare on the best of days, especially when the AIB bank is getting a cash delivery (they don't even other to park up just block the cycle/ bus lane full stop!!

The make-up and the dye make me look twenty years younger but if anyone asks I'm natural ;)

The questions on everyone's mind - does the collar match the cuffs?
