Eircom Line Connection – Pole Installation.

I requested a phone line installation from Eircom that required a new pole to be installed.

Eircom installed the pole today in my absence and without my knowledge but instead of installing it on the road side of the ditch they installed it in my garden. Location wise it’s where it needs to be but I had expected it to be installed on the road side of the ditch. Had I been contacted before the installation this is what I would have instructed them to do.

My question is should I get the pole moved out onto the road side of the ditch?

If Eircom ever need to do anything with the pole or replace it do they need my permission to come onto my property? If I don’t like what they want to do can I refuse them access to the pole?

    Thanks.

If they were to put it on public property it would require a licence from the Co Co, more time and money. On your property they can skip that.

They dont have a blanket right of way like the ESB so you can refuse them.

Count yourself lucky they're not charging you, they don't put up free poles on private property anymore, the customer must now duct to meet the Eircom network or pay for the erection of poles on private land. Not sure on the figures but they had a deal with Comreg where they allocated so many million to cover this cost for a certain period of years and once they had this budget spent up earlier this year they stopped.

    Thanks for the replies folks.

ED E – as far as I know from what Eircom told me over the phone (I’m been almost 3 months waiting on this pole) they did apply for and were granted planning permission to erect it. Is planning permission only required to erect the pole on public property or would it also be required to erect it on my private property?

Considering they were granted planning permission to erect this pole is there any other reason why they couldn’t install it on the road side of the ditch as opposed to in my garden?

Mass Debater – I signed up for a deal with Eircom that includes free line installation. I did point out to them at the time that this was a new connection and that a new pole would be required at a minimum but they assured me that it would still be free – to date I haven’t be asked for any payment! If I was to duct to meet the existing Eircom network it would require ducting under a road – hence the requirement for the pole to bring the line across the road.

I ducted from my house to my side of the ditch – so the pole is actually installed at the end of my existing duct. However if the pole was on the road side of the ditch it wouldn’t be a big job for me to duct out to it.

What’s annoying me most is that they made no contact with me about the positioning of the pole – they simply came out and installed it in my garden!
