Boxymo, what's wrong with them?

So I'm looking at Boxymo insurance. First time driver, On provisional, (about a month before I can do my test, but need to get on the road ASAP as I can't depend on my parents to get me to and from work), and they're by far the cheapest quote i've found.

I'm aware of the tracker box and the mileage limit(I'd never get close to 16000 in a year), but that's fine with me, i have no problem with one of them beign installed if it means I get such a cheap quote (1300-1500).

So what's wrong with them? For such a cheap insurance company, I can't seem to find many people that use them.

    I would stay well clear.

Too many restrictions and will know everything about you.

Well I don't really mind the tracker box, nor the kilometre limit and If I'm out past 11pm it usually means I'm drinking so I wouldn't be driving in that case.

I dunno what to make of it tbh, I was hoping to get some customer testimonies.

It does seem like a good idea, doesn't it? But most people aren't happy with monitoring. If more companies did it, but without the mileage/km limit that Boxymo have I'd say it could vastly reduce costs for new drivers.

I see. That doesn't give too much hope for me tbh. Guess I'm back to the drawing board then!

I'm monitored in every part of my life and my car is the only place I have a sense of freedom.

I won't take insurance from any company that tries to be big brother.

I'm with them and find them grand so far, once you send off all the relevant documents and get the box installed before their deadlines everything's fine.

They send me a text once a week to say if I've had any speeding incidents, and at the end of each month they give you a driver score and you get extra miles depending on the score.

How long have you've been with them?

What kind of documents do they need and how long did it take to get the box installed?

4 months now, they'll send you out a list of what you need to send in, mostly just stuff like Direct Debit agreement, photocopy of licence front and back, proof of address etc.

They ring you about a week after you on n the policy and they send someone out to install the box and then you just send them the form to say you had the box installed.

Oh so it seems simple enough then. Pretty much everything an insurance company would need.

Are you on a provisional or full licence?

Provisional, they were almost a grand cheaper than anywhere else was offering.

If you can't depend on your parents to get to and from work who be the supervising driver? No point in being monitored as you break the law.

I am looking to get insurance, like you, with a provisional. Be aware that the same company operate its4women.ie and 25plus.ie. Go to its4women.ie and see what they quote. For me its amazingly cheaper. Basically any insurance is ~2200E and its4women quoted me 1450 for fully Comprehensive. That is based on a 1.5 306. Also a bit of an area loading for where I live I would guess.

You would pay a bit more for the insurance without the box but the key thing is, you could drive as much as you wanted during the year. Boxymo have a fairly high charge for extra Km's over your limit.

    That's decent.

I got quoted 1900 with them on a 1.6 Ford focus. Which isn't bad at all if I get away without the boxymo stuff.

Edit: So I just noticed Its4women and by extension, Boxymo are the same crowd that did my sister's insurance. She was refused her claim when her car was stolen, from her drive, and had a hell of a lot of trouble getting in touch with them...

The way I see it; as a provisional, you really can't afford to have any claims whatsoever anyway. So, really you just want a piece of paper that is legal. Your car really shouldn't be worth that much at this stage anyway :P

That's true I suppose!! Im going for around 1500-1700 for the car itself, so it's ludicrous to be paying over 2000 on insurance.

When I was looking for insurance when I started driving I was contemplating them too. Then I Googled reviews for them, that really made me change my mind. Apparently they're really strict on cars that are not stock. So even simple things like alloys and they can refuse to insure you but again that's only from what I've read on the internet.

I have a friend that's with them and he still has 3 months left on his insurance tried to get an extra 1000km onto his driving and they wanted 330 extra to. His cars now parked in the drive for the next 3 months because he refuses to pay itit.

Yeah, I looked in to them a bit more today, Seems like I was right with it being too good to be true. I found some bad reviews aswell.

Stay well clear of Boxymo, worst ever insurance company in Ireland, even Quinn Direct weren't half as bad.

They don't answer phones, impossible to get trough, all is done via online chat, absolutely on the bottom of the list, cant go any deeper. Who deals via online chat only nowadays, its like one of those operations from your own house..

Customer service level is a nightmare.

I can only imagine what would you need to go trough in the event of an accident, they probably run out of the country If they had to pay out.

Could you confirm provisional license is the L permit ?

Provisional licence is nowadays called a learner's permit.
