Voluntary Redundancy and new job

Our company has been offering voluntary redundancy every quarter this year so with the writing on the wall I decided that this quarter I would look out for a new job postings. I would only consider taking the redundancy if I can find a new role pretty quickly afterwards.

I got lucky with the timing, and landed a new role and got approved to take voluntary redundancy around the same time.

I had holidays to take so although I don't officially finish up with my old company until Friday week, my new company has asked that I start earlier than planned (Monday morning). This would mean an overlap of one week where I would be officially employed by the two companies.

My questions are 1) is this allowed and 2) could it effect my payment from my old company?
    Thanks,

    Yes

    And no.

    AFAIK

What happens after you finish up with old company or while you're on holiday from them is none of their business.

As far as I remember this is fine. I remember I had finished one job and used annual leave to finish a week early but had started other job that week so was essentially getting paid by both for one week.

Are you sure you won't be wrecked though? I would nearly try and get the week off as you will probably only have a holiday until late autumn/winter?

Thanks for the replies - glad to hear it won't be a problem as I am using my own holidays to help out the new company by starting early.

I did have a concern about being wrecked moving to the new role without holidays, but our agreement was that I could keep a 1 week holiday which I had already booked for 1st week in Sept - which is something I suppose! :-)
