Is the mean of several coefficients of variations valid?

    Hi all,

    Please bear with me as I'm not a good stats guy.

    If I have a dataset of groups of people's weights with SDs:

    Group 1: 78kg (5): COV = 0.064
    Group 2: 92kg (12): COV = 0.13
    Group 3: 61kg (7): COV = 0.114
    Group 4: 44kg (3): COV = 0.068


    Can I make inferences about the COV of all of the groups together with a mean of the COVs?

    i.e. (0.064+0.13+0.114+0.068)/4 = 0.094 = 9.4%

    If so, does the size of each sample impact upon this?
