Anybody know if the Crane GPS watch in Aldi on Sunday can be used with Strava?

Can't link from it here but you can find it on Aldi's site under the specials for this Sunday.

Just wondering if you can you take the data file off it and upload it in a format strava will accept. Comes with a heart rate monitor and claims decent enough battery life.. Normally use my iphone but battery on that isn't great and often runs out mid cycle.

It doesn't look like it will work with Strava or the like. Looks like it is only bluetooth to your phone, then that synchs with crane connect app. It doesnt say what file format it uses, and it doesnt look easy to access the files. You would probably be better with something like an edge 200 or any other gps watch that produces a .fit or .tcx file format for strava.

FYI I was in Aldi in Finglas yesterday and they still had a Garmin 200 in the glass case.

You can save and export the files to GPX and upload to Strava but it'll be an awful pain in the hole and it's a piddly little display.

Save the money for a Garmin.

How can you do that? (cos if you can, then I might buy one)

Can't remember but did it once for PaterScone before he decided it was easier using his phone.

Seriously don't bother. I got the GPS from Lidl/Aldi a year ago. I was all set to use this as a cheap alternative to a Garmin. It took nearly 20 minutes to do all the fiddling to get it into Strava (format was different and the coordinates were slightly wrong and had to be adjusted to say you were in Ireland). Then when I did get the data in it wasn't that good because the GPS module in it was cheap and not very accurate. Sometimes it recorded me in one location and would lose signal for 10 minutes resulting in a straight line on the map as if I flew a couple of Km in 1sec. After doing this 10 times I just lost the will to keep at it and used it as a basic bike computer (which it wasn't even that good at).

I got the Garmin 200 from Aldi a couple of months ago and seriously regret wasting my money on the cheap Lidl one. Great battery life. Good accuracy. Just plug it into the computer and it goes straight to Garmin online and from there Strava picks it up automatically. 5sec work to get it into Strava. It's worth the extra €20.

I would avoid this and keep your money and get some proper. My father got one of these and it was pure ****e.

FWIW, these are now marked down to €16.50 (from original €65) in my local Aldi today.

At that price I picked one up, primarily for use as a cheap HRM.
Will check out the GPS reliabilty on my local loop.

    Cahir, Co. Tipp
These have been in their electronics cabinet for at least 3 months - I thought the markdown was just on an obviously returned unit, but they got me one from the stockroom.
    YMMV

Just to update - this watch/HRM working fine for me.

Just completed my usual 8k run and distance is spot on. Track is smooth, no jitters - a slight drift when running down a tree lined section, but that's to be expected.

The watch downloads to phone/tablet via Bluetooth.
Phone then automatically syncs data to the CraneConnect website.
From there, you can save the workout as GPX and upload to Strava etc.
All takes me about 3 mins.

HRM also pairs with my phone (using Bluetooth LE) so can be used directly with a variety of fitness apps inc Strava and MapMyRun, or simple HR monitor apps.
