I'm getting quotes for around €1,700 - €1,800! I have a full licence and 1 years no claims. Are these type of quotes the norm now??

Seems a tad costly alright. What sort of car are we talking about, and who have quoted?

I'm paying that much as a 20 year old on a 1.4 golf with no NCB, that's definitely way too high unless you've got a car with a big engine or one that falls into a high risk bracket.

Sorry, it's a passat 1.9 tdi 06. I dont understand it? I know 21 year olds not paying that. The Quotes are with liberty and axa. I would expect my quote to be around 800 or 900.

Mmm. I find AXA quite competitive these days, but having said that there's no fathoming them. All I can tell you is try a few more of them.

The 1yrs no claims is what's killing you, you're basically like a new driver to them.

Exactly, the OP being 27 has very little effect as compared to being 21 when you only have 1 years NCB. The lack of no claims is why it's so high.

Google car insurance Ireland and get a quote from all of them, don't just go on price, compare the excess and other benefits.

The 800 mark sounds close to the mark.

My insurance is around 500 but I still get the odd 1500 quote from a few. Generally everyone's premium is a bit more expensive this year.

    Have similar details to yourself.

    Full license / 1 year NCB / 1.6 Focus.

Best I've seen so far is FBD €900 for fully comp.

Got a renewal quote from Aviva for €680 comprehensive for a Audi A5 1.8 - 1 year NCB (4 years named) and 27.

It's beneficial to be married also (and have your spouse named on the policy).

However, I wouldn't get married just for the insurance benefits...

edit: some other companies had quoted up to €1500 for roughly the same cover. So definitely shop around.
