Home office desk wiring

The electrician has arrived and I've a list of things to sort out! For my office desk is it better to have the wall sockets (power, CAT5, telephone, etc.) to be above or below the desk level?

There's a hole in the top corners of the desk where the cables can come up and onto the desk surface. I suppose this would be the neater option as opposed to having the cables come down and onto the desk directly from the wall?

Slightly off topic Barney but what cabling are you running to your TV points.

On your question Id place the cabling under the table.

Will bring this up with the electrician tomorrow Hex. CAT5 will be there anyway for Internet connectivity.

Regarding the desk, yes, I think below desk level is best. I might just leave a connection or 2 above desk for that quick access that might be needed once and a while.

My electrician has suggested using cat 6e instead of cat 5.

A quick Google and it looks like you're right... will bring this up tomorrow - thanks!

Underneath for sure, trust me you will hate those wires. Then the possibility is use an extension lead and screw it to the underside of the desk. Easy access to plugs that way :) Or if you have desk draws see if the panel behind can be removed to provide inside.

Definitely below. As said above it hides the cables better. I'd definitely go with at least Cat 5e instead of Cat 5. Cat 5 will only give speeds of 100Mbps whereas Cat 5e is 1000Mbps. Cat 6 is faster again.
