This type of small talk happens in probably every profession. People are scum.

The article makes it sound like she was just being mean - if you skim the pleadings, she diagnosed him with haemarroids (sp?) even though he didn't have it and put it on the charts.

You're a stereotypical misogynist aren't you? You're saying that only "Joe Soap" can throw the vegetables, implying that Womyn can't throw and are bad at sports. Womyn can grow and throw their own vegetables too!

I worked in tech support. What that doctor said was mild compared to what I've heard some people called.

I wouldn't give two hoots what was said about me while I was unconscious, so long as I wasn't molested in any way, no tissue or samples were harvested, and no photos/videos were taken without my consent.

To be honest, I agree with her comments and also believe the person in question needs to man up a bit. I doubt this was the first time people talked negatively about him behind his back, and I doubt it will be the last. The only difference is that these people were unfortunate enough to be recorded doing so.

Nothing that I read here (can't listen to the recording) implies that his care was compromised, procedures neglected, or that anything was physically done to him which could be considered unbecoming conduct. When under medical care, you have the right to be treated properly, have all procedures followed, and feel confident that nothing has been overlooked. You don't have the right not to be bitched about. Humans bitch, and they make jokes. Medical professionals are human.

Unprofessional? Probably. Worth half a million? Not in my view.

People have started threads worse than that talking about the customers they have to deal with. I'm pretty sure there's not many people who haven't done something similar.

They're looking up his arse for gods sake, I'd allow them a few jokes to make the situation less awkward.

If she put roids on his chart he could have gotten an uncomfortable finger probing.

I'm reminded of that Simpsons episode "Itchy & Scratchy Studios will pay a restitution of $800 billion.... Though that amount will probably come down a bit on appeal."

Does anyone believe in being professional anymore? It's not worth half a million to the man but it's worth it if it teaches professionalism to other doctors.

This person has devoted their life to getting rid of horrible icky pain, I won't hear a word said against them.

    Points for getting rid of pain 99999999999999999999999...9999999 10 10 11 10 10 10 9 10 12

Why would anyone care so much what was said about them when they are ostensibly "not there"? I honestly don't get it.

I would be outraged at the thought of any medical professional posting selfies with my unconscious body or making identifiable comments about me in a public forum, but a couple of colleagues talking nonsense during a procedure? If it doesn't leave the room, I wouldn't feel it was appropriate to get worked up about it, and certainly not to the point of litigation. I'd be embarrassed and possibly upset to hear it, but I would know going in that it would be almost certain to happen.

Think of it another way: do you know anyone in any profession who doesn't make untoward comments about their clients/customers? From the people I know who stack shop shelves to programmers and developers to doctors, there isn't one person I haven't heard pass (negative) comment on someone they've served/worked for/treated.

People grouse about the things they do to make their work day go faster. So long as they weren't saying this things to the patient's face (and they had the reasonable expectation of privacy here, in my opinion), I really don't see the problem.

You don't think touching a sedated patients genitals when there is no medical reason to do so is unbecoming conduct?

Is this in the recording? In my previous post I said I had not been able to listen to it, but there is nothing in the print that I saw which suggested that any unnecessary physical contact was made...?

My comments are limited exclusively to the verbal mockery/insults mentioned in the text of the article. If there was any unnecessary physical contact involved, I definitely do not condone that, and absolutely believe this behaviour should result in immediate and stern discipline.
