Where can I get unbiased career advice?

I've spent the last month or so out of work. After becoming unemployed (Contract expired), I sent out an incredible amount of job applications, like I had when I looked for work the first time.

I was shocked and overwhelmed by the positive response I received and was thus unable to interface with the companies properly. It's become more a question of 'Why should I work for THIS company', as opposed to 'oh jesus please can I get a job somewhere'.

My only concern now is that I'm not really sure what I'm qualified for and whether education is a good idea at this time (And whether I should do a level 5 skill based course, or a 6/7/8). I've talked to a lot of different recruitment agencies, which all seem to have their own agenda depending on how big their commission is!
