Paddy Power have a market for the Men's Nationals. Route looks fairly flat....Paidi O'Brien too big at 16/1? No price yet for TT or Ladies race.

Cant believe there was no thread for our National Championships over the weekend. Well done to all the winners and well done to Omagh Wheelers on organising a well run event. Only could make it up yesterday but great race by Damien Shaw taking a great victory and young Eddie Dunbar for taking silver and the U-23 title. Think ride of the day was home club rider Marc Potts who was 5th among some top names.

Was wondering how Deignan, Brammier, Irvine and Mullan all missed the break on the first lap. I think Diegnan had mechanical issues from the start and he stopped not far past us at the top of the Main St clearly with bike issues, think he knew the game was up with break away and him fighting to get back to the bunch.

I followed it on twitter. great racing. Delighthed for Shaw. Dunbar is some machine, and to think he is only 18.

Ditto. Would make for great Telly. Shame it wasn't live on the box. Fantastic ride by Shaw and Dunbar.

The clear headline of the weekend was that I finished 39th in the Masters 40 Road Race. I'm not sure how the press missed it but rest assured that I will be having a word with my PR people.

I would love to see this on TV.

I watched the British ones on TV yesterday and they were phenomenal!

I wouldn't watch a lot of cycling on TV etc but the "everyman/woman out for themselves" was pure entertainment.

    Some finish!

From Strava looked like a very fast Vets race this year, over 41km/hr. Considerably faster than the M50/60 and not too much slower than the elites

It was quick alright - definitely a significant step up on the A3 racing I have been doing, with the possible exception of the second half of the Shay Elliott where I was comprehensively worked over by the juniors in the lead group. The fact that the bulk of the firepower stayed in the bunch rather than going up the road contributed to the high pace. It was a fairly technical course too and there weren't many sections where you could sit in. The sprinting out of corners and up little kickers meant it was lined out a lot. You had to be careful - I did some attacking in the last 50k and came very close to getting dropped as a result. Having said that, there were 60 odd riders together at the finish so I can't claim too much of an achievement!

How did it compare to last year (that is if you did last years) ?

It appears we use the same press office because me ground braking ride into 20th in the m50 was was meat with a similar fate
The m50 was a much more cagey dare i say negative affair than i would be use to in A3 with certain riders completely marked out of the race
But not to take away from what was a well run event, here was a feel that you were in a BIG race also it was great to have a chance to test yourself against your piers I do hope the masters cats are encouraged at other events

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be cycling on the M50. :pac:

Didn't do last year's. I was there the first day when it was cancelled due to that tragic road accident but I didn't go back in September for the re-scheduled race.

It's hard to compare anyway due to different courses, your own form being better or worse etc. I think it was harder than Carlingford two years ago but there the race went up the road early so it wasn't so hard for those who didn't make the move.

Its a pity its not televised alright. I spent the day on the couch with one eye on twitter feeds on my laptop and watching the British national's Womens and Mens races on the TV.

Great win by Shaw. One thing that always struck me about him, is his build. He seems more like a body builder than a cyclist.

He certainly looked to be carrying a lot more weight than other A1/Elite cyclists.

I may have read an article somewhere saying that he tired to loose weight this winter and he has always struggled to keep it down.

Anyone know how much he weighs.

I am guessing he just produces so much power that weight doesn't matter.

    Here's his winter training. 180cm 78kg

He's some man for lugging that weight up hills

Maybe not for a weekend warrior. For a top cyclist of that height it's definitely on the heavy side.
