JSA appeal??

Hi I posted on here a while ago asking about JSA. I have been on JSB for a while now and it runs out in 9 days time. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and was getting very stressed about not hearing anything from welfare about my application. Today I rang the intreo centre in clonmel to see could they shed any light on my situation. They eventually told me an official decision does not get made until my JSB Runs out but said I will be due 40.80 euro on JSA. I asked would there be anyway to appeal this when my official letter came through and I was told abruptly that unless my spouses pay changes then no. My husband takes home about 460 a week, we calculated as did many people on here that I should get roughly 72 euro a week and we figured we'd try to appeal that amount but you can imagine the shock I got when I heard 40.80 euro.

We have a mortgage we both have negative bank balances. 40 euro a week won't even cover the cost of my car and we live in a rural area with no bus or anything, I guess I'm looking for any advice anyone can offer with appeals, other types of welfare etc. Being 35 weeks pregnant I really don't want to be getting so stressed and upset over all this but with 40 euro a week I cannot afford to physically live.

    Thanks in advance

Hi RVN, The way means is calculated is gross earnings less prsi, union dues and avcs if applicable. When you have that amount then deduct €60 disregard and then 60% of this is what will be the means against your claim. Assuming its just you and hubby then take this amount from €312.80 and that should give you what you should receive every week. You will have to wait and see what it says on the official means result and then if you like you can give us the info here and we can see if there is any error. If you feel the result is incorrect you can appeal the decision. An appeal has to be made withing 21 days of receiving the notice. I just did a rough calculation there and €72.80 would be correct if you were doing the calculation on nett pay but as I already stated its gross pay less prsi etc... tax is not excluded.
