We're thinking or maybe hitting the uk by car and ferry but not sure where...has anyone been anywhere nice recently they would recommend?

When ours were babies we started going to campsites in France, can't get enough if the place now.

Friend went to centre parks in the UK last year with two under two and had a great time.

We went on a sun holiday earlier this year with a 2 year old. Hated it. Our child was miserable and too hot the entire time.

Have booked now to go to france in september. We went last year with her, and we all had an amazing time (or at least I think she did :) )

We are catching the boat to Cherbourg and staying at a campsite about 1.5 hours away from there. We actually stayed here before - before she was born. It has a indoor and outdoor swimming pools, is near a beach, near a supermarket. It also has a small take away on site. This means that even if our child is a bit cranky there are still lots of things to do on the campsite :) And it won't be too hot for her.

I would entirely recommend this type of holiday if you have a baby. Its very relaxing.

What's the name of the campsite? That sounds ideal!

It's called châteaux les eaux, near Granville, Normandy. It's a castelle site, but last time we went it was lovely and quiet. Think the ferry is about 21 hours. You get on about 3.00pm and get off the next day at 10am. Gives you nearly a whole day in France.

The ferry actually passes fairly quickly. We consider if part of the holiday as its we turn off the phone s and I can't check work emails ☺

Have a look at eurocamp.ie, that'll give you a good idea. ferry is no problem either, nothing but families on them in the summer. France is good cos you have the sun (not gauranteed!) :) but the humidity is fine. We've been going since our first was a few months

We've been up and down the west coast and spent some time inland too.
We always bring the car on the ferry as it's a lazy way of bringing all the plethora if stuff you need with a young family on holiday. Recent years we bought a caravan so we get away more often here in Ireland and get to France each year.

France has so much to offer, Brittany is like holidaying in Cork on a really good summer. Go down to Bordaux and it's med weather with fields I sunflowers and vineyards to explore.

Take a look at the website called Baby Friendly Boltholes. They are a travel agent who specialise in baby holidays.

I think you can pretty much go anywhere with a baby. I brought my son to south of France in August for a week when he was 6 months and he just slept all the time. We went to Tenerife when he was 13 months and although he wanted to be crawling all the time he was generally fine and happy enough. We've been camping in Italy 3 times since my daughter was born and the first year when she was 4 months was by far the easiest. She was fine at 14 months and 2 years too.

We also went for a week's boating on the Shannon when my son was 4 months and that was good fun too.

Italy is fabulous with smallies. Pasta and pizza easy lunches, Italians love babies and it...Puglia was great for us...we rented a house there and it was gorgeous......

We have done France(5 months) and Lanzarotte with 1(1),Menorca with 2(3 and 1),Wales with 3 (4,2,5 months) and France with 4 (5,3,1,and 4 weeks).

If you are going to Wales avoid Pontins, stay else where and do a day trip or 2.The accommodation is not very good and day trips are cheap. Wales was gorgeous and so friendly though.

We stayed in La Grande Métairie last year in France in a mobile home, I can not fault it but it was slightly wasted on us and would be better for older kids.

My favourite campsite in France where we went as kids is Les Pirons and I brought the eldest there when she was a baby,it is extremely reasonable and I loved it as a child. It has been upgraded a lot since my day.
I like the ease of France and packing up the car and they had great fun on the ferry(Celtic Link)

We took a 5mt old to Lanzarote, not a bother with him on the plane and no bother beside the pool or on the beaches with him.
It was out first time there, i'd go back again, streets are flat and good large footpaths for buggy pushing.
It's cheap place to eat and drink, some of the beaches are beautiful especially around Papagayo, water was warm enough to take him out in it with me. That was in September while it's still hot but not melting.
I like a bit of snorkeling and it was a good island for it.

    Hi,
We went to Wales on the Ferry when our first was about 8 months. Twas very easy to get there and pack everything in the car. We rented a mobile home here outside a B and B near Portmadog - It wasn't in a holiday village or anything like that.
It was ideal for us at the time as it was relatively easy to get there etc.

Last year we went to portugal, rented an apartment with pool with a 8 month old and a 3 year old.
It was okay, but to be honest after doing it, I think myself for those age groups the flights, messing around with luggage and the chances of the weather being too hot aren't worth it - for a couple more years anyway.

The summers where we've had the very good weather have been as good a holiday as any for the kids and we stayed local.

Next time when they are a bit older we are definitely going taking the horse (car) to France into one of those parks, which come well recommended for the older kids.
