Here's a list of the top ten earning caddies on tour, from Sportsjoe.ie... and JP is only number 2.

    If anyone fancies a job...

As I recall, there was that story doing the rounds that Stevie Williams was the highest paid sportsman in New Zealand, while he caddied for Tiger.

yea no. 2 on the PGA tour. that probably doesn't include European tour earnings in that case.

Did Billy win the 10million fed ex so that probably why his caddie no 1?

Those numbers are from 2014, when Horschel won the Fedex, take JP's earnings from the last 5 years he'll be miles ahead of the next best paid caddy.
Pretty sure the Steve Williams thing was the running joke forever, and the two things that made it funny were that he was said to have made the statement himself, plus he isn't actually been paid as a sportmans.

I was told recently that caddies are now on fix fee's per year instead of a win percentage which use to be 10% of amount of money won at a event. I'm sure they still get bonus for wins.

Steve Williams was paid a salary I believe.
Something like $50,000 a year plus 2% of winnings?

    Still nice earnings.

I think I read that in the Hank Haney book.

Why does everyone assume caddies get 10%???? they don't. I would guess the list is made up based on this assumption also, because if you look at Micah Fugitt response he says it's close, but not true.

From what I know, it is probably safe to assume all caddies get a salary. (I'm talking long term caddies) Obviously, the better the player, the better the salary is likely to be. Then on top of that, they will get a percentage of winnings, but not necessarily 10%. It can vary, and it might not even be a fixed percentage, it could vary depending on their finishing position.

Then on top of that, they will quite likely get deals with sponsors ranging from something as simple as free gear, to getting paid to wear the free gear. Again, the better the player here, the better the deal is likely to be. And caddies don't always wear the same gear as their player, though it is becoming the norm from what I see.

The main thing though is comments like this are nothing more than throw away remarks by people who don't know what they are talking about.

All caddies will strike their own individual deals, there is no fixed deal for being a caddy

i read/heard that some caddies are taking a case against the PGA as in their eyes they are losing out on money because they have to wear the bib. which is supplied by the comp sponsors. They want to be able to wear their own bib and get sponsorship deals themselves, dont know how true that is.

    - nice bit of useless information :D

Oh well excuse us, we didn't realise you know everything there is to know about golf, you should have said and we could have bowed in submission.

I think you should become a Mod, you are so much better at it.

I would hate to have a conversation with you in a pub....

Seen you want to be exact, back in 2007 this was how most caddies got paid according to Cone.

"Caddies are paid on the basis of how well their player performs: a base salary of $1,000 a week plus 5% of the tournament purse, 7% of a top 10 and 10% for a victory, according to Cone"

Due to the large increase in prize money in the last 10 years, the basic salary has increased and the win % as drop according to the so called experts.

But Michael Greller hinted recently that this was his deal with Jordon Spieth, hence he's a very well paid man at the moment and that was 2015 if I'm correct.

But here's a interesting calculation, how much does Jordon get out of the actual purse he won this weekend of €1,800,000.

If the caddies gets 10% (sorry Seve OB) and the agent gets anything up to 15% and plus other staff, would he even get 50% of that cheque?

I seem to remember from the McIlroy case that the agents tend to get a % of off course earnings only. Which makes sense as they can't influence on course winnings.

This article suggests the golfer ends up with about 40% of the prize money...
As Pee Flynn would say "it's a well paid job.... but it aint easy"

With taxes and everything else I'd say he'd be doing very well to get 50% it's probably closer to a third.

Justin Thomas was on the no laying up podcast recently and said something similar, he said his caddies deal was 5% for a made cut 8% for a top ten and 10% for a win.
