Played in a Society outing today in Luttrellstown today. Had rubbish 4 first holes due to I'll fitting short sleeved shirt. ( forgot the tee shirt). Dumped the shirt for a light wind jumper but really didn't get going on first nine (10 points). Second nine much better and had 11 points on holes 10 to 14. Felt good on 15th par 3 and heart thumped when one of our 3 ball said he thought he saw my shot bounce once close to the pin but couldn't see it on the green. I naturally thought it had gone out the back but overjoyed when it was just where I always aim for but seldom achieve. My last hole in one was 40 years ago as a kid so happy days.. a day to remember! My scorer happy to record his first ever 1 on a scorecard and 5 pointer!

    Good one.....

.....given the time noted on your post - was there some celebrating afterwards?

Well done! Hole in ones are just great!

BTW, I love the excuse for the rubbish first four holes :)

Class, like the back story too, I know there's a hole in one thread but I think every 'live' hole in one deserves its own thread.
That's a thread I hope to start one day :pac:

A strange excuse I know but very true.. It was restricting my follow through with the driver !

A lad in our place had a hole in one on Sunday. Plays off 22 and the par 3 was index 3, so he scored 6 points! Was only 50 yards away when it happened, heard the massive cheer but didn't see the ball go in.

Never had the pleasure myself, I've come close loads of times over the years, maybe one day!

Have you made a claim on your 'hole-in-one' insurance :D

At a club I was a member of a few years ago in the UK a lad had an ace - on a par 4!!

He was renowned as a big hitter and crap putter so it probably suited him not to have putted for the eagle!

Hi Jawdrop.. Unfortunately it was a society outing so I dont think I can claim! It appears to be for only GUI/ILGU official outings.

Even in GUI/ILGU official outings the insurance is worthless. I had my first ever ace on the 2nd hole in Slade Valley during their JSC last year and didn't get a single thing out of it. Have golf insurance through my club and unlike a few years ago where a confirmed ace covered €250 in bar receipts now you're only entered in a draw. Had to contact Golfsure who then told me I'd be entered in the draw but there was never any disclosure as to what the prizes were or who were the winners, all very cloak and dagger stuff.

HowDidIDo also offer a watch for players scoring a hole in one in competition and despite being registered with HowDidIDo through my club and also Slade Valley GC being on their system I got nothing from HowDidIDo despite numerous follow up emails. They never even replied to my enquiries and just directed me to their terms and conditions in small print where it stated the hole in one had to be in a qualifying competition in your home club. Stupid condition as it is ever tougher to get one on an away course.

I got a 2nd ace in the first 18 hole competition of the year in my home club in Mar this year. Off the white tees but because there was playing everywhere HowDidIDo espaced having to send out the promised watch as this time it wasn't a qualifying competition (how having placing affects one's ability to score a hole in one where a tee is used is behond me, would make more sense to stipulate that forward tees are excluded and competition or medal tees must be in play).
Nothing again from the golf insurance so it's worthless as any sort of insurance or prize for a rare ace.
My home club however did present me with a crystal momento of the occasion so at least I have that for the years/decaced ahead to see if I can get another.

thats really poor about the hole in one change. I thought the €250 behind the bar was great, but I suppose they were losing money on it.

I've never seen anything in relation to the draw results on this, apparently you can win a car?

The last place I was a member of (in England) had a 'hole-in-one decanter.'

If you aced a hole, tradition called for you to fill the decanter with with whisky / whiskey then anyone could call for a nip.

It sat on plinth behind the bar and it was always nice to walk in and see it had been filled because the first question was always 'who and on which hole?'

If you got your hole in one before the decanter had been emptied from the previous one, apparently you and your mates were dutybound to make room for the new stuff :D

.........he has previously scored 22 aces in 47 years of playing. They have all come in tournament play, 18 of them on par threes and four on par fours.

    That's some shootin' Tex!

I saw this on facebook. I'm sorry, but I just don't believe it. 2 aces on par 4s? Another on a par 3 and 7 birdies? It's an unbelievable round. It's not even a one in a billion round.

Well done OP by the way!

Excellent and good to hear of businesses looking after their customers. Luttrellstown is a top class course and very popular with societies so a smart move to reward such a rare occurence, reputation and word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising. I'm sure the course will always invoke fond memories with you given the feat and now how you were treated there.

    Yep.

I never thought I'd have to ressurect this thread but I had my first ever hole in one yesterday! It was on the 14th at Killeen Castle. Hit a 7-iron nice and sweet. Originally thought I had pulled it a little left but it took a kind bounce, ran down the hill and straight in.

Have to say that the experience was a bit surreal. No huge cheer from me, think I was in shock TBH.

It was in a society outing so all I will get is kudos from the lads and the memory.

So that is another one off the list, what's next? 😀

So what's the story with the Hugo Boss Hole in One Watch?

Has anyone here scored one of these and what strings are attached? It looks too good to be true so I'm ma bit sceptical. Is it a "Get a free watch worth €100 if you join this club for €200" type deal?

A few people at my club have one, as long as your club is on howdidido and its in a competition, then you can get the watch. Not sure if you have to request it or if it emails you about it. It's a very nice watch, not cheap at all.
Hopefully I'll find out one day, but still waiting on one.

Not bad, but not as good as Kim Jong Il who only played one round of golf ever and had 5 holes in one when recording a 38 under par. :)

Seems like a good incentive to consider for a club, cant find anything on their website about it - also our club uses handicap master - not howdidido,

Does anyone know of any other similar companies working in Ireland - i would would like to get my club to look at this.

Here's the email I got yesterday after my hole in one:-

    Dear XXX

Our records show us that you have scored a hole-in-one in the XXXX competition at XXXXX GOLF CLUB on 24/06/2017. That is an achievement that we would like to recognise.

My name is Barry Dyett and I am the Managing Director of HowDidiDoMedia, the company responsible for the HowDidiDo website. As a golfer that has registered with HowDidiDo, we are contacting you to give you some exciting news.

This year HowDidiDo has partnered with BOSS Watches to introduce the H1Club, an exclusive organisation for golfers who have achieved a hole-in-one.

We are currently verifying your hole-in-one score, a process that normally takes around 48 hours. Once your achievement has been verified we will e-mail you again giving you more details on how you can claim your entry to the H1Club and receive your free and exclusive BOSS Watch

All being well I will e-mail you again in a few days.

    Kind Regards

    Barry Dyett

Being a bit of a cynic I think the language is somewhat ambiguous. Providing me with "more details" on how I can "claim entry to the H1Club and receive your free and exclusive BOSS Watch" could well mean "pay €x to join the club and you get a free watch for joining".

I'll wait and see that what strings if any are attached to receiving the watch.

Yeah that's sounds a bit like "pay €x and we give you a FREE watch!!!!"

A friend of mine had a hole in one six weeks ago. He received the watch, no strings attached.

I had a look at the website and they say that Boss have given away almost a million quid's worth of watches.

That's not the language you use if people are paying. Also, I noticed a few made up holes in one on their 'latest' page. Clearly they won't get watches as they won't have any supporting info on Howdidido, but they still 'joined' the club.

There were definitely free in the past and they probably still are. It's just the letter above cast some doubt, when something is actually free, the marketing letter normally shouts FREE about 100 times and it was just lacking in it.
