    Fully deserved

Is this the one where they followed the kid in a car, grabbed his saddle post, got him up to speed then pushed him into a ditch?? If it is, then it is well deserved, if not, it probably is too ;)

    I think thats the one.

In fairness, they are lucky there wasn't serious injuries to the kid. The sentence could have been a whole lot longer.

    Is the kid ok?

If it is the same occurrence, yes he was pushed into long grass, i think he had cuts and scratches.

Scratch that, here is a link to the original article >> http://www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/attackers-grabbed-and-pushed-emyvale-cc-u14-from-passing-car-knocking-him-unconscious/

6 months... Likely to be reduced by at least 50% for an assault leading to loss of consciousness!

Very disappointing it wasn't a ten year sentence.

No mention of his accomplice(s), the car driver.

    Pathetic sentence really.

Think about it- say you were strolling down the footpath and decided to randomly assault a child, leaving him unconscious, and then fled only to be hauled in later... Do you really think you'd only get 10 months?

Given that rape convictions in Ireland typically get 5-7 years that would seem relatively disproportionate.

If there was no lasting damage I'd wouldn't be surprised if custodial was avoided.

    Random example:
Assault causing harm - Bottle - Facial injury - Scarring - No previous convictions
    http://www.irishsentencing.ie/en/ISIS/record/CCT/NT00000FCE
-> 1 year imprisonment, probably out in a lot less.

I am shocked that someone could do such horrific injuries with a broken bottle and only get a one year sentence.

Yeah, probably best avoid the courts then.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy enough with public stoning to death of the cretins who pushed the kid off his bike.

This is barely justice, let alone karma.

Karma will be when someone stoves his head in for being an absolute scummer.

Whatever about the guy in court, why wasn't the driver charged too? Surely just as guilty, and the car should be confiscated too as it was used in the offence.

I think the convicted guy's name should be posted here for all to see.
22 year old Thomas McCarron of Killydreen, Emyvale pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing harm in relation to the incident which happened along the main Emyvale to Monaghan road on June 23rd 2014.
