Selling Cat C write off on DoneDeal

    Hi

Just hoping someone can give me some advise

Last week someone crashed into my car while it was parked and insurance has deemed it as non economical to repair and a Cat C write off which means it is repairable salvage. I have the choice of selling to their salvage yard or selling it myself if I think I can get more money.

Is it OK to advertise the car under the damaged repairable section of done deal and if so do I have to explicitly note that it is a cat c write off in my advert? The car is road worth and safe to drive, just cosmetic damage so am I within my rights to sell it as damaged repairable?

    Thanks :-)

    Absolutely.

As long as you are clear in the description that it is an insurance write off. But don't make any claims as to the road worthiness or otherwise of the car, as this will lead to a liability on your part.

Just state what it is, advertise in the appropriate section ( damaged/repairable) and you will be fine. Just be prepared for the usual "Sure I will have to charge you to take that away..." etc. :)

Thanks a mil for reply :-)

Should I mention that it drives OK? Or that it had valid nct or could that lead to liability?

If it has an NCT, say so, for sure. If the car is drivable, say that it drives - just dont qualify it with "fantastic" or such like. Your target market here are professionals - they will make up their own mind about it. What you dont want is some joker thinking they can run it as is, and annoy you if there are any other issues with it.

    Good luck with it.

Thanks again :-) Just one last question, would it be OK to sell it to a private buyer? Just had some eastern european guy from Kilkenny on the phone very interested. Or should I stick to breakers or parts buyers?

What is the car and what are you hoping to get for it.

Private or professional shouldn't matter to you. As long as the ad makes it clear what it is, you will be fine. Get him to sign a statement to that effect ( sold as crashed/repairable, no warrenty, etc.) A handwritten note will suffice.
