    What does last April mean?

Does it mean April 2014 or April 2015? A quick google seems to indicate 2015 but I'm wondering if that could be American English usage and perhaps Irish English is different. Basically does "I met them last April" mean the same thing as "I met them in April"?

In the given context, 'last' means most recent, so I would certainly interpret 'last April' as April '15.

There's no strict rule on this. For clarity when speaking I would use:

"I met them in April" - April 2015

"I met them in April of last year" - April 2014

Obviously, I'm not actually that anal in real life. To me last April means April 2014 in this context as it is shorthand for "April of last year".
