Car recommendation for tall parents!

    Hi all,

I am 6'4" and my wife is 6'. We currently have a one year old but have another baby on the way.

I drive a Mark 5 Golf which is big enough for our needs as the baby seat in installed behind the passenger seat where my wife sits and this allows me to put my chair all the way back when driving. However, once the second baby comes we're going to need a bigger car as I can't drive with a baby seat behind me.

So, can anyone recommend a car that has a lot of legroom in the front and the back, has a large boot big enough for two buggies, preferably comes with an automatic gearbox and wouldn't be too expensive to run and maintain. I'm not ruling out 7 seater MPVs but it seems a bit excessive for two adults and two children. And before you ask, we WON'T be having any more!

Our budget would be around €10,000.

    Thanks in advance.

Skoda superb, Audi A6 or S Class Mercedes, all have lots of leg room in the back when the front seats are all the way back.

Newer shape Skoda Superb in either hatch or estate would seem to be the logical answer, but think they may be above budget.

*edit* if Auto isn't a deal breaker, you'll have far more variety to choose from in the Superb from a quick look online.

It's not a deal breaker but my wife has gotten very used to the automatic Golf and that would be her preference. Makes no difference to me to be honest.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

If foot and head space at the back is important then you should check out the new Nissan Pulsar.

I'm looking at it at the moment, and the review's I've read all mention boot space, and leg room as the high points. They mention boring looking as the low point but that might not matter to your parents.

Go to 1'10" in this video for a comment on the room and boot space.

edit sorry it's not in your budget.

I was going to suggest a focus estate, but it dawned on me that a friend of mine has 3 kids and is taller than you (6 6) and drives a Golf.
It works grand for normal city trips, and they just hire a 7seater for holidays.
Are you sure your seat needs to be all the way back. Could you adjust height/ angle of the base of the seat and the steering wheel to allow space behind.

The driver's seat isn't all the way back when I drive and I leave it as far forward as I possible can. I have tried adjusting my seat further but I'm incredibly fussy about my driving position.

Also, the car seats we have both use the ISOFIX bases and are both rear-facing, which means they take up a good bit of room and can't be adjusted.

I'll be checking out some cars this weekend based on various recommendations and will see what's what. Thanks again.
