I only know 3 people from the card, but I am interested in the headliner since I hope Romero get's his cheating ass knocked out

Really looking forward to seeing how Steve Montgomery does. He was in this current season of The Ultimate Fighter but had a seizure cutting weight prior to the weigh-in before his fight and had to leave. Dana said he'd give him a shot and was true to his word.

Unless Machida's chin is cracked (I don't think it has, but I am worried he's taken this fight just 2 months after his last loss), I don't see how Romero wins barring a one shot KO in the first round.

think if it goes five machida may have an advantage
I think romero will take this esp if he takes machida down

Bit worried for Machida tbh. He looked really awful and out of shape against Rockhold, like he needed a bit of a break from the sport, yet he's competing again so soon, which is unlike him anyway. Something doesn't add up.

I agree. Seems to be taking everything and is looking more of a back number for a while now.

That's a crowd pleasing mullet haircut on Steve Montgomery. Class.

edit: followed up by a textbook faceplant :)

Also any idea who the girl is who assists, puts on the vaseline etc? She's gorgeous.

Assists? Lol..shes a cut woman. Her name is Swayze Valentine.

Cool, just spotted her there holding a squeezy bottle yolk about to tend to the faceplanting Jerry Springer love rat lookalike.

Think I've seen her about the place before alright.

ATT's head coach, Dan Lambert, has been such a prick on TUF thus far that he has me actively cheering against every ATT fighter these days.

    Vicious KO from Sims.

Very poor card so far. How I didn't fall asleep during that Dias v Makaahvilli fight I will never know.

Damn this is boring. All decisions tonight. Sims was a nice KO but everything else just about kinda interesting, maybe. Which is not why I watch UFC.

Yeah that shot of Swayze was a good one. Where's the fights though eh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,527 ✭✭✭tinpib

    What a kick!

He knew he didn't need to follow up himself.

Edit: That Portuguese interpreter is earning his crust tonight in post match interviews.

I'm gonna take credit for that ****!

    Holy Santos ...

He needs to retire. Looks so under strength, his power gone and he can't absorb any shots.

    Sad to see.

Romeros next fight is against gay Jesus.

Even his stand up in the fight was very average. Romero didn't even shoot for a takedown in the first two rounds, he was hanging with Lyoto in the feet and he's not an elite striker.

Romero doesn't come off great in this fight because of how piss poor Lyoto was, but I do think he's a very good fighter. If the Jacare fight does get made again it'll be a good indication of just where Jacare is at because Romero is a tough fight for anybody at '185.

Sad to see Lyoto declining so much though. He will earn a very nice living coaching when he does retire and I really hope he does. The only fight that possibly makes sense for him now is possibly Shogun again on a Brazil card but after that, in MMA you get old quick and Lyoto is finished. Sad.

Great win by Romero and its sad to see Machida go out like this but my God Romero should just keep his mouth shut, anytime he speaks its a PR disaster and there's only so much he can blame on "Misunderstandings". Chaps a moron.

there appears to be very little between jacare rock romero and weid imo
maybe rockhold is the best of that lot but anyone he's beat so far in the ufc you would have expected him to have done so
maybe jacare is possibly the weakest of that lot?

nothing left for machida now really but at least his next match up probably wont be against one of the above so he may win a few fights again but his days are numbered in the division sadly

I was impressed with romero, never looked in any kind of trouble and would love to see him fight jacare next

Haven't watched prelims yet, not a bad card. Will Lyoto recover from that loss, some elbows taken

He can recover. He can be a break evener if he chooses to continue but its clear now hes past his best and he knows now the level has been raised. Hes a clever guy with other interests and options outside the octagon if he chooses.

If he's not in it for the money then it's time to leave. Destroyed in his last fight and knocked out this fight too. He was down for a while too after the ref called it.

Crazy though he has looked like on the small size end of MW but wasnt a tiny LHW. Anyome else find something amiss?

Anybody would look small standing next to Romero or Rockhold. They're HUGE middleweights

Instead of cutting water to make MW he dieted down his walk around weight to near the limit, giving up any advantage of dropping down anyway.

It would not suprise me to see him take a fight at WW and do the same thing, ridiculous.

He's now a slow middleweight. If he goes lower again he'll be dealing with even faster guys

Man, Machida has been my favourite fighter for a long while, it's pretty tough watching him get ko'd like that.

Good submission by Carlos Junior was a matter of time, totally out grappled Gordon

Truck will be cut now I'd imagine. He may feel slightly aggrieved as he should have been given the decision against Chris Dempsey back in April.

It just goes to show what an impact poor judging decisions can have. 0-3 looks an awful, awful lot worse than 1-2. He'd be guaranteed another fight at 1-2. Now his UFC career is probably done.

Romero is one scary dude, vicious KO from the short elbows. MW division is bloody crazy.

Really impressed by larkin, thought he looked great!

It was hard to watch a legend eat elbows but Romero is a beast...if they could just stop doing post fight interviews he could even become a fan favourite

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

For a big guy, Romero is like a spring. Flying in with kicks and knees and just reset his stance with ease whenever he misjudged them.

Myself and mate usually watch the fights together and stick a few bets on with each other. I had Romero and he had Machida.

Felt Yoel wasn't throwing enough punches but what he did land got through in short little bursts. Very crisp and technical performance.

Those elbows though... So much power from short elbows to KO Machida was brutal.

Sad to see Lyoto lose like that and I really don't know where he can go from here.

I'd love him to come back from this but I don't know if I can watch him take any more punishment like that on Saturday.
