Hi Guy's wondering is it possible to pick up the Irish FTA channels in the US, I have an Uncle who was a hoping to pick them up maybe using an Amiko Alien 2 or the like,

If possible what would the frequency be?
    Cheers

No Astra has tight beams that are centralised in Europe and with the new spot beams they are concentrated over uk and Ireland.

It wouldn't matter how wide the beams are, there's the small matter of the bulk of planet Earth being in the way ...

You wouldn't get much in the way of FTA Irish tv on Astra 2 anyway.

The only place to find RTÉ FTA on satellite is on Saorsat Ka-Sat @ 9 degrees east. Even at that it won't work much beyond Ireland as it's a very tightly focused beam. Not going much beyond the island of Ireland

    For FTA only obviously.

    What you need

    1. A decent e2 box with say a 1.3g processor and a twin or quad tuner.

    2. A decent enough E2 box at the receiving end

    3. A static IP with port forwarding enabled at your end.

    4. Decent broadband speeds at both ends. Also note that HD channels would be grabbing about 30megs so you would be better off sticking to allowing streaming of SD channels.

That way someone could remotely watch channels from your box whilst you also watch others.

It won't receive a signal in the states, see the signal footprints for the Astra 28 satellites here, they don't extend far beyond Europe

Just out of interest where do you plan on pointing the satellite dish?

Is it not streaming he's talking about?

Maybe, although he doesn't seem to be. posters kept mentioning satellite footprints after you brought up the minor flaw in the plan.

It reads to me that the android box is another idea to try instead of satellite.

Yes the Android box is to stream instead of satellite, He only wanted something to watch GAA match over the summer Cheers for the help

Okay, once the talk moves from discussing FTA satellite to streaming I have to point out that there is no discussing either circumventing regional restrictions or breaking copyright. We move straight to bans for anyone who does so given this on thread warning.

If it's any use GAA Go is supposed to be decent. Some friends dotted all over the globe have it and rave about it.
