GE Interlogix CS250 Alarm Problems.

    Hi,

My sister-in-law came back after a weekend away, to find the alarm control panel flashing "Low Power" and the control panel was unresponsive, inputting code had no effect. It turns out her boyfriend had the mains power off over the weekend, for an out of character DIY task (don't know how long it was off for). Alarm was installed 7 years ago, battery in control box was never changed - so guessing it was completely drained and couldn't back it up.

I replaced the 12v volt battery with a new alarm battery, both the internal/external bells started going off and the control panel display started flashing "Please Install NO + #" - Alarm code had no effect. Replaced the control box cover, to make the tamper switch and get it back to original physical state.

Alarm was howling, so removed the internal & external bell box covers - had to dis-connect the power wire going to each siren and replaced the covers once more.

Alarm is still in an alarm condition but no power going to sirens/bells.
Control Panel is still flashing "Please Install NO + #".

It seems like its looking for an engineer or default code, any help on the above would
be greatly appreciated - alarm installation company's call-out fee is 120Euro.

    Thanks in advance,
    George.

For some reason the system has reset itself back to a default condition.
Press the NO + # to initialize the system. Select Ireland and set the time and date. Default user is 1122 default engineer is 1278.

I have P.M.ed you the engineer manual off the system.

If you have a meter check the battery charge voltage before replacing the battery, its a well known issue with these panels where the charge voltage drops too low to charge the battery.

It sounds like you need a fresh battery. It's lasted 7 years.

    Hi lads,

Over here now at the alarm.

Keypad still flashing "Please Install NO + #"
Pressed both NO + # keys simultaneously and nothing - same message still flashing on display.
    Tried different sequence - same.

Defaulted system again (mains off, battery disconnected - battery reconnected & mains back on) - re-connected power to both the internal & external bells when there was no power going to the alarm.....alarm started howling once more.
Display flashing "Please Install NO + #"
Pressed simultaneously once more and no change - display still flashing the same message.

    Disconnected the bells once more.

Any ideas ? Again, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    George.

    Hi,

Would a signal be stuck high and thus causing the alarm to be in activation / going off and the signal stays high even when all power is removed - could this be what's preventing progress?

Is there anything that can be shorted out to remove this high signal, get the alarm back to a non alarm state and try the system initialize again?

The keypad buttons are also all good, each one was pressed individually with screen in sleep mode and the display screen lit up.

    Cheers,
    George.

I have seen them lock out after the mains has being off and the low warning being displayed. If it stays like that after a repower up I would do a default back to factory settings which will bring you to the screen you are at, like a fresh install.

If nothing is happening I would suggest getting an installer out to have a look at it for you. First off it should not default back to factory setting after a power down and start up. He may need to default it correctly and start over again.
