How many tablets for a 1/12?

    Okay so I've always gotten 28 in the past. Lately the pharmacist has been giving 30. Is this right? I ask because the prescription says 28 tabs, repeat x 6/12... The medication comes in boxes of 28 and this last couple of months I've been getting bags of bits of cut up cards and it just seems very odd. I really don't like getting cut up cards. Would prefer the nice clean uninterfered with box I used to get but don't want to say anything if the 30 is correct...

    There is no real "correct" amount of tablets for 1/12 as such, some patients get 28, some get 30. This can come down to their own preferences, what the doctor writes on the prescription or how many tablets come in an ordinary pack (mainly 28). If you'd prefer to get 28's in future, I would say just ask the pharmacist when you are in next.

    If you are supposed to take it for 6 months, you need 182 tablets in total.
    6 packages of 28 is 168.

    28 tablets is not a months supply ( apart from Ferbruary). What is the pharmacist supposed to do ?

    If it's an ongoing medicine, it doesn't matter whether you get 28, 30 or even 10 at a time - just return to the pharmacy and get more each time you're running out. Every six months or so, your pharmacist will say "Would you ever ask your GP for a fresh script before the next time? Thanks."

    No-one's suggesting that you have to go 3 days with no tablets if there's 31 days in the month!

    Except to your wallet. Yes it's only 3 days. But those 3 days add up between the GP and the dispensing fee. 2 days a month over 2 years = almost a whole month.

    It all depends on the pharmacy, boots do 28 from my experience but some smaller local places give you 30.

    I got a script from a consultant I see privately for 3/12. When I gave it to my GP to put on the medical card, he wrote 28 Tablets so thats 12 weeks rather than 3 calendar months. don't know whats right really.

    They're the same. The number of doses between the two measurements is insignificant. Just speak to one of them before you finish the course if you have any concerns.
