Cost of car insurance rising?

My insurance is fully comprehensive with AIG for a 2005 Skoda Octavia

Last year cost was €460. Received a letter Friday saying cost of renewal would be €540
Was surprised with an €80 increase, would have expected a lot better.

Been putting my details into a couple of online quotes there and its coming out at least €580 with anyone else so far

Have insurance costs in general really gone up or what is the reason?

I think a couple years ago i was getting it for something like €420

€460 for fully comp isn't so bad. This years new quote is within the boundaries of feigned competition.

Some quotes can be nearly doubled if they're trying to get rid of you.

Are you with an insurer with high street offices? If so, call in. Get to know the staff. From experience, they should match last years quote. Do you have home insurance?

I'd certainly forget about those online quotes. They're too random to be serious and are really just to get your name and email to put you on their mail listing for future quotes.

Honestly, I'd be very surprised if the best they can do is the low €500's.

One more thing, are you sure you need fully comp on a 10-11 year old Skoda? TPFT should bring it down to €400 approx and TP only would be €380 approx.

Sorry, just read again you're with AIG. Have you tried calling into AXA for example?

Yes, all companies have been increasing their premiums. There's many threads like this since a while.
I've shopped around every year and not really had to increase my premium so you can still get good deals.

It's all to do with more cars and crashes on the road.

Also Quinn insurance have made it super hard for insurance companies so everyone has had to us their premiums.
