I'm looking into buying my first car soon and the Fiat Grande has caught my eye. What are peoples thoughts on these cars? I don't really want to spend to much on it but would you recommend spending a little more to get an 07/08? I am a bit clueless so any suggestions/thoughts are welcomed!

In the same boat as yourself. They seem to be all over the place at my price range and have been strongly considering it.

they are an excellent car, the 8v engine is one of the most reliable and cheap to maintain engines around. The car itself is very capable - it is closely related to the opel corsa of the same era.
One issue with them is the alternator, which can fail prematurely due to the way the water from the windscreen drains right on to them. But most have been fixed at this stage - just make sure its not noisy. You have to replace it with a Fiat alternator (expensive) as pattern copies dont work well with the cars electronics. Just something to watch.

Other than that there arent any stand out issues with them.

Don't know much about the Grande Puntos but the 8v Fire engine in them has been around years and is still be sold today. Don't think they've aged that well either imo.

The 1.2 Fiesta is also worth a look.

Any impressions on the Seat Ibiza. Love the look of the car but have not info on the specs. Was also told by someone that they're a bit cheap feeling.

The Ibiza 1.2 litre is noisy and whoefully underpowered. The Ford Fiesta 1.25 litre is way superior imo.

Is the 1.4 L any better? Looking at one on Saturday.

If your going to be paying tax on a 1.4 litre there are better ones out there.

I've owned and driven Punto's of varying description, including the Grande. The earlier Mk2 Punto's were light and felt really agile but the Grande's have bulked out considerably and are a tad underpowered. Rear door handles give trouble and gearboxes can be soft on some. Like buying any car, due diligence is essential and check everything is working properly.
